1988 Camaro Engine Wiring Replacement

I just recently acquired a 1988 Camaro Iroc-Z 5.7 TPI Automatic. I’ve done lots of reading and this is my first third gen but these may be stupid questions. The Camaro had previously been sitting in a field and mice chewed through basically the whole engine wiring harness. If the wires aren’t chewed completely through they are at least all nicked up. I’m looking to replace the entire harness. Here’s the dumb question. Is the TPI harness the same as the engine harness? Specifically, I was looking at the Painless 60102 TPI harness. It’s seems to have connections to just about everything under the hood but on the Painless site it states that it is not intended to replace the OEM wiring.

Do do I need to get a new TPI harness as well as find a used engine bay harness? Thanks in advance for clearing up this confusion!

The painless harness would just be for the efi. You would need to separate out the charging system, headlights, fan.
You better off finding a used harness in the wanted classifieds section.

Re: 1988 Camaro Engine Wiring Replacement

88 is one year only, and it's specific to the Camaro or Firebird, meaning a Camaro harness won't work well in a Firebird or vice versa. Likewise an 89 harness might come sorta close, but it's a bit different.

Nearly all the connectors and terminal pins are available from Mouser. Not all of them are that easy to service, but it's not impossible to replace the wires, and broken connectors were applicable and rebuild a harness. Potentially less of a headache than trying to make a donor harness from a different year/model car work.
