Turn signal cancel springs

EDIT: If anyone else has this problem, the part numbers are ACDelco 1964784 (Left/Bottom), 1964785 (Right/Top) and the name of the thing is "Turn Signal Cam Cancelling Spring"

O'Reilly can order you some stainless ones from Dorman, UPC# 37495493123, O'Reilly part number 49312 for the pair.

Anyone know how to order these? My left (mounted in bottom) one is actually snapped in half. Hardware stores didn't have anything quite right, even looked at buying a cheap air tool to throw the tool away and get the trigger spring. I have calipers and a micrometer handy but don't know what the type of spring is called to search for it.

Left turn signal cancel spring on left, right turn signal cancel on right. No clue why they are not the same material.

Re: Turn signal cancel springs

I would just buy a new assembly and just remove the springs from the new one. Unless you can find the supplier for the aftermarket makers, I doubt you'll find them separately.

Why would they be different material? It's more likely they are just different colors because of some part of the heat treat process is slightly different from the other one

Re: Turn signal cancel springs

Just replace the entire switch. It's cheap. Remember, even yours (1992) is 27 years old. The plastic is probably brittle and about to break.

Gonna give snipping and bending these a shot:

The extra coils should reduce the scoring on the plastic cam, if they still fit. They come in packs of 6 so I get a few tries. For now I'll just have manual cancel. The switch was just replaced, I'm told, and it looks quite clean so that's believable. Cam part is old and worn.

Re: Turn signal cancel springs

I was able to find a turn signal cancel cam spring by itself. I bought one last summer and have yet to install it, too many projects.

ACDelco Part 1964785? I found that one, of course it's the other one.

Re: Turn signal cancel springs

If I go digging, I likely have a good one in my parts columns. What year and model we working with?

1983 Trans Am. Since you have multiple parts cars, maybe you can answer this: The aero parts between front and rear wheels, how many of them are there, and how do they change between 82-83-84-85? Trying to figure if I can mix and match or it will not match up for some reason.

Re: Turn signal cancel springs

They're 2 bucks a piece from online parts suppliers. I would have just replaced mine, but a wire broke off right at the connnecror under the dash and I had to replace the entire switch...

O'Reilly can order you some stainless ones from Dorman, UPC# 37495493123, O'Reilly part number 49312 for the pair. They will have a tough time looking it up if you don't provide them the numbers.

I always thought that 82-4 were the same. I just tore down an 82. Let me see if I can find part numbers. DId you get the column piece you needed?

I got those springs once I was able to give the parts store people the numbers. Something's still messed up in my park lock, probably the cable itself but I have more messing to do with the column. Any idea whether the later model cable (the one that doesn't leave the car though the firewall and come back in) will fit the 83? Otherwise I'm just going to leave it out because that's about the dumbest thing possible to run outside the car.

I'm working with another guy from thirdgen who has a lot of parts right now. So far the 3 I need that I know he doesn't have are:
  • Recaro seats, will reupholster (yes I'm serious, cheaping out on springs was just a matter of principle because I know a spring is not rare)
  • Correct taillight center for an 83
  • Passenger side aero bulge in front of the rears, he only has a broken one, and I'd like to avoid having to manufacture my own parts at least until I get mostly done

Nothing on any of those- they go as fast as I get them. I have a good drivers aero bulge- passenger was broken.
As far as the park lock- 700R4? Then 83 to 6 should work. 87 started changes, and to be honest, I never checked that end of things. If I get a spare moment, I will check to see.
