T-stat inquiry

Working on 87 5.7 tpi. Went to pull the t-stat and the front stud broke off in the manifold. The back one is about an inch deep. Not sure how long the front stud is supposed to be. It's fought me all the way in drilling it out.

Can anyone tell me how deep is adequate?? Don't want to damage the manifold.
Thanks

Re: T-stat inquiry

For any bolt you generally want at least 1 to 1.5 diameter worth of thread...
