Sweet Rides!

It sounds like you just need a ride back to Lawrenceville to pick up the second one? That can be arranged.

one needs to be on a trailer at $9.00 a gallon that 13.5 to one compression nig block hurts the wallet.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

It looks like the 82 is going to have to sit out G-17. We can't figure out a good way to get both cars from the Smoky Mountains in NC to Atlanta and back. My original plan was to detail the car and bring it down in as is condition. It's an all original WS7 t-top car with 24,300 actual miles. Like Knight Rider, except in white. I figured that people would get a kick out of seeing it in it's unmolested as built state. The car is a real time capsule, sort of a barn find. It looks good, although it does need a few very minor cosmetic items fixed to be perfect. It runs good, everything works, and it is complete.

Since the 30 year-old OE Goodyear Eagle GT's are still on the ground, OE hoses, belts, and such, there is no way I would consider driving the car the 145 miles each way. Since our trailer will only haul one car at a time, and Betty refuses to drive the 86 so I can trailer the 82, it looks like the 86 will be the only one to make it this year. My attempts to find a two car trailer to rent have not yielded any decent results. The only rental I can find is located in Locust Grove GA, costs $700.00 for the week, and will require two round trips from NC.

If we can find a two car trailer to rent locally, we will bring both cars, otherwise it will just be the 86WS6.

Im sure if you can find a way you will have both there. that would be great. maybe someone here or on the gathering forum might have extra room or a trailer to fit the need. At the very least, post some pics so we can see it.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...-than-low.html

Here you go. Bought it is June from the original owner in South Carolina. The PO bought the car in Princeton NJ from Baker Pontiac in 1982. He planned to use the car as his DD. The turbo 200 trans never shifted correctly and GM refused to fix it while it was under warrenty. After about six months of arguing with Pontiac, he bought an SUV for a DD, and only drove the tempermental TA to car shows and on weekends racking up a few hundred miles a year. When he retired to SC 25 years ago, he hauled the car down there and placed it in a humidity controlled garage.

The transmission eventually completely took a dump in 2005, and the car sat in his garage for two years. In 2007 he had the transmission rebuilt, and the mechanic who built it must have known what he was doing because it shifts perfect. Last year the PO decided that he no longer wanted the car, and I bought it fom him. Along with the car, I got every reciept that was ever generated for the car including the original buyer's agreement and window sticker.

That car is so cool to see in person. Makes you feel like a kid again. I'm sure Charles will take very good care of it. Maybe you should bring it instead of Amanda this year as it is a time capsule.

Thanks Danny for the compliments.

I am sure the people will enjoy seeing the 82, however there are several reasons why Amanda will be the one coming to G-17, if only one car gets brought to G-17.

The 82 is so original that it is not very road worthy at this time. Those 30 y/o OE tires are a hard as rocks, and the car vibrates above 40 MPH. The possibility of one of those tires coming apart on the highway scares me as it could do a lot of damage. The brakes are not bad, but are a little spongy. The brakes need bleeding and new hoses installed. The car is OK to drive up and down the street we live on, but there is no way that I will drive it in Atlanta. Too many things could fail, and a breakdown in that traffic is something I prefer to avoid. If we bring only the 82, we will have to skip the dinner cruise that our group is hosting. I doubt if anyone would appreciate our driving the F-350 on the dinner cruise...

Amanda has had her tires, hoses, and belts upgraded, and is road worthy, so we can and will drive it to off site events. With much help from Ian Kee, of Kee Audio one of the sponsors of G-17, I completed a total rebuild of the Performance Sound system in Amanda. Ian will want to have the car available for attendees to see/hear the outcome of that build.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

I understand that Charles but it sure would be cool to see the 82 there even if you didn't drive it to the cruise. I would say we could all get in mine but someone would be in the hatch LOL That 82 is a museum piece. Amanda is nice too. Has she tripped 30k yet? I like the idea of the cake when she does.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

I will definately be there with mine. I go every year, but have never shown my car. I will this year since it's looking pretty nice. I wish they would do a big F-Body swap meet section. Would be nice to do a little shopping or selling while there. I'm hoping to get all my new suspension swapped in from my roller that I bought before the show. Anyone wanna help? I could sure use it.

My attendance depends on $$. Wife is pregnant and I have a lot to do to the house to update it for the new addition to the family. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do all I wish to do to the car before the event. Will be parked with F-Body Inc. as usual.

Coolwheels84...I believe you may be my competition this year...I usually register under the v6 categorie and your car is lookin good...

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

Thanks man. Congrats on the baby to be. My car is definately no show car. My engine and underneath is still very much circa 1984. Hasn't been touched. Let's just say I won't be opening the hood unless something miraculous happens in the next 8 weeks. I really do hope to have all my suspension done by then though.

Thank you. We both are looking very forward to whatever we may have(boy or girl, not sure yet...either way...car enthusiast.) I have yet to touch my engine bay either other than the functional ram air induction and a strut tower brace. Other than that....factory V6 and a couple multicolored panels. Look forward to seeing your car.

Congrates CB on your upcoming fatherhood!

84, that is one cool paint job! Looking forward to seeing your car in person.

Tony, thanks for posting the pics.

Danny, Amanda is about 100 miles shy of the 30K mark. The last several years we have added about 250 miles per year, so 30K should happen this year. She had 25K on her when we got her in 2006. For a low mileage car, Amanda had a lot of issues due to neglect by the PO's family after PO's death. My first intention was to turn her into an autocross racer, but ended up doing a minor restoration on the car instead.

I still want to build an autocrosser... It will be built from a third car, not either of the two we have now.

We may have a special guest with us this year. Our five year-old grand daughter, Aurora may be coming to G-17 with us.

FYI, anyone who wants to compete in the show will need to have the hood and hatch open on Saturday AM for the judges. Also make sure that t-tops are in, and windows are up. The judging is based on cleanliness and condition, not what you have for power under your hood. LSA, or Iron Duke, it makes no difference as long as it is neat and clean with no rust. If the judge finds the hood closed, hatch locked, windows down, t-tops out, all possible points for that each catagory will be missed.

cool wheels 84,
very nice car and hope to see you there. there has been vendors on site but i have not seen any actual swap meet established. i haven't seen it discussed on the gathering forum either.
i have seen some items and parts with a for sale sign next to cars, and i even once had a set of subfame connectors at the front of my car for sale one year.
if you have a lot of stuff and want to set up an area for a parts sale area, i would check with the car show admin on the site. it might even be a forum topic that gets support or interest. i have a few things myself i would sell or buy on site and avoid shipping and ebay fees.

Tony, I hope you got some better ramps this year. I think we had everyone freaked out on the upper tier trying to load your car last year. Kevin's not still in the round refrigerator is he? LOL

Kevin, where are you? Wake up LOL

Charles, just as long as you, Betty and Amanda or the 82 are there everything will be fine. I found a 91 or 2 here today that needs engine and tranny that would make a great auto-x car. It's a red non TA but it's a great canidate for something like that as when I asked how much he asked me what do you want to give. I'm afraid it is crusher bound if no one gets it. Needs paint on top, non t-top car, interior is so so.

Congrats CB on your future car enthusiast. Hope you make it to the Gathering

Ya'll don't worry about the show, it's only a part of the reason for the Gathering. It's about fun and meeting fellow enthusiasts.

Thanks Danny, Hopefully everyone will get there safely, have a great time, and get back home safely.

As for the autocross car, my neighbor who buys and sells cars, just bought an 88 GTA hardtop car that I am seriously considering buying. The car is solid black, rust free, WS6, L-98 TPI, with a 700R4 trans. It's a high mile car and a little rough. Paint is OK and the body is complete. The PO removed the A/C, and changed the 9 bolt diff to a 3:73 gear. The engine was rebuilt, bored 30 over, and has an aftermarket cam. It appears to be in good shape, and that thing will haul a**. I'm thinking that this will make a decent autocross car, and will not require much work to get it ready.

Just a quick add - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IN BY EARLY SAT AM (I think by 10) IF YOU WANT TO BE JUDGED. You have to go inside the hotel to check in and then the outside tent to get the show card. They open Friday night to check in and also on Saturday morning at around 9. We had some people miss out on the judging a few years ago because they did not check in at both places.

Looking forward to seeing some new faces and new cars out there this year.

Charles- Buy the GTA, you can't beat a black GTA. Sounds like it has the go already, just maybe some suspension adds which aren't that tough. Would be a cool autox for sure.

Tony- I bit the bullet and just bought a new GM nose. I do remember a few used ones I saw in yards that looks salvageable , I could check and see if they are still there if you like.

That being the case, it looks sort of tough without the rings.

We're registered for G-17 and registered for the hotel from Thursday to Monday AM.

I had to wait until I got my taxes done, to see if I was going to take a big hit this spring from the IRS. We got the taxes done, and I don't owe additional money, so we are good to go to G-17.

I may have found a two car trailer to rent. It turns out that one of the mechanics, Chris at the local Ford dealership owns a 32 foot bumper pull equipment trailer with a dove tail, that he will willing to rent to me for a very reasonable rate. He is going to make some measurements to see if the cars will fit, and not scrub going over the 5 foot dove tail.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

16 x 8 Formula wheels look good on a base Firebird, and they are usually cheap. Seen a set painted mat black one time. It looked really cool! I sold a nice set a couple of years ago for $50.00

Tony, if I run arross a decent nose for a Maro, I'll let you know. 91-92?

My vote is yes, if everyone else is OK with this choice?

As soon as we have a consensus, we should start an anouncement tread on the FbodyGathering site.

Thank you Jordan for all of your efforts.

Prototype F, those wheels will look good powdercoated also.

If were going to post on the show forum we need to do it soon. I personally think Joes is the best decision and to just tell Chad to update the site with the cruise.

And where is Kevin?

Charles, LOL. Sounds like you found a great autox ride. I hope the trailer works out.

Tony, that guy is wanting $600 for this roller and it's just not worth that IMO. I almost fell out of my chair when he told me that. It's a 'bird so I don't think you want the nose.

Kevin, KEVIN WHERE ARE YOU?

Whatever ya'll decide on the cruise I'm OK with. I know Lu Ann will say Joe's is fine. She still talks about the time we went for breakfast. LOL
