Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
The trailer is a bust!
It's an equipment trailer, not a car trailer. The deck length is 32 feet which is about 2 feet too short both cars. The dove tail is so sharp that the cars will not load without scrubbing in the middle. The ramps swing up and lean forward taking more of the deck space. Bottom line, it is not the right trailer for the job.

Jordan, are you going to go ahead and contact Joe's?
We are going to forget about trying to bring two cars. We'll bring Amanda this year, and plan to bring the 82 next year for G-18.
Come on G-17!

Zzzzzz
School at wyotech. Been so busy I have been neglecting to check in on TGO. I'm planning on registering in the next week or so and booking a room. I have a 24' enclosed hauler and a duramax now so I'll be hauling.
Been getting a lot done on the car, new accessory drive, working on the interior which is nearly complete. 01 Z28 seats reupholstered in gray and black suede with the door panels matching. New shift plate and boot. New switches for the windows and door locks. I even rebuilt the hatch motor.
Danny, you best bring your A Game, cuz I'm loaded for bear.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
Thanks Jordan. As soon as we have it worked out lets get a post going on in the Soap Box section on the G-17 site. Let folks know what to expect.
Tony, I have some lights that are designed to hang on an RV awning. They are windsocks that look like the American Flag. They are cool looking lights, but I am not sure that they go with the theme. There are enough of them to go all of the way around my 12 x 20 canopy. Since Kevin made sure that we have access to 120 Volt power last year, power should not be a problem? I will throw them in the back of the F-350 and if everyone wants, we can use em, if not we can leave them packed up.
Tony, I'll keep an eye out for your nose...
Kevin, glad to hear that you are coming. Sounds like things are going well for you. I can't wait to see what you have done to your Maro, and I want a ride in that Duramax powered truck. And no, I am not going to race you with my 11 year-old F-350. Big Red is a workhorse, not a speed demon. When I told Betty that we are attending G-17, the first thing she asked was, "Will your friend Kevin be there?" Just think of Betty as another grandma.
I e-mailed Chad and asked him if we can have the fourth row. He made no promises, but told me that our request is noted.
Now if we can just get Luke to join in the conversation?

See Kevin was out there....
Im going to order me a TGO shirt to wear at the show. I usually get a show shirt and been wanting to get one anyway.
Im talking to a few in my area hoping I can get them to join us at the show. Lets keep pushing to get as many as we can.
Fourth row? you mean across from where we were on the tree line?

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
The Rev Zone has rows one and two.
Usually row 3 is general parking.
G-15, we had row 4.
G-16, we had row 5, but spilled onto row 4 which was general parking.
Last year, I heard some members talking about wanting to get row 4 back for G-17, so I figured what the h***, Why not ask Chad if we can have it. It would be cool to get row 3 and 4 so we would not be spread out in a long line.
What do you think about it?

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
Kevin, if you get to G-17 a day eariler then your friends did last year, and don't have a bed, let me know. Betty and I always get a room with two doubles, and your welcome to hang your hat there for the night. You don't have to sleep in the parking lot.
Our grand daughter Aurora can't come. We would love to bring her, but it will mean two round trips to Washington DC. One to pick her up, and the other to take her back. It just isn't in the works this year. They are moving back to Georgia after the first of the year, and we plan to bring her to G-18.
I am going to bring my service dog this year, Yohnah. (Yohnah is the Cherokee word for Bear). Yohnah is a 110 lb Golden Retriever, and is a trained service dog that I got after recovering from that pesky brain tumor. Since he is a registered service dog, he can legally go anywhere. He is a pretty cool dog. Yohnah is way too cool to hang out with me, but he puts up with me.

I appreciate the offer Charles. I'll probably get in around midnight Thursday night but my crew cab has a super comfy back seat. So I'll probably rack out there Thursday night and check into my room Friday morning.

Wow Kevin is in the house. LOL Glad to hear you're going to make it and my 'maro looks like it did last year, well mostly. I know how you feel about being on TGO, I've not been here much lately either.
We'll be there the week before the Gathering, well the car will. It will be left in ATL while we head to Oklahoma and should be back Wednesday or Thursday.
Charles, sorry about the trailer. It would have been nice to have both of your Birds there but there is always next year.
Hello Jordan, glad you'll be there again this year and thanks for all your help getting things ready.
Now where's Luke. Hey Luke, get out from under that car and get on the net for a minute. We need to raise your post count. LOL

Thanks Danny.
What sort of arrangments do you have for storage of your Camaro while you travel to OK?
I tried to arrange storage for one of my cars, and will have to pay for a whole month just to keep it there for a couple of days.

Betty has decided to go and visit her sister in Carrollton rather then come to G-17. So it looks like it will be the dog and me. That means I can stay up later and party every night!

Charles I see what you are saying about the fourth row. I would also like to return there. This year we appear to have more cars parking with us than last year. Lets push it as best we can.
Im coming up there Thursday again and help setting up.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
Charles, I'm just leaving it at a friends house. Not in a garage or anything. Nothing special inside of it so if someone wants the radio that bad they can take it. LOL But I'm sure their neighborhood is pretty nice. There are a few more friends I could leave it at, haven't checked yet to see if I can put it inside there.
Checking on google maps and it's 24 hours from ATL to Claremore through Little Rock. I should be one tired puppy when I get back. I may need to get a recliner for the parking lot.

Danny, be careful of dozing in the parking lot, that's how incriminating pictures get taken... I know from experience lol.

Red solo cup, I fill you up, lets have a party. LOL I'll take my chances. The trip will be well worth it. Was planning on taking an airplane but mom wants to go too and take her car. Also it would be difficult to take my toys on the plane.

Just for the record, Kevin did not pass out, infact he was not intoxicated when that picture was taken. Kevin had drove a long distance and had been awake for a long time. He sat down for a minute and fell asleep. It was one of those 2 minute power nap things. The chance to get that picture was just too tempting to pass up.

Sounds Good Jordan, Thanks.
Kevin, you go ahead a take a nap any time you want to. The Gatherings only happen once a year. We won't take your picture, paint your toe nails, put shaving cream in your hand or any mean stuff like that...
All things considered, Kevin is a good sport. Several of us have teased the mud out of him, and he just takes it in stride.
Kevin always helps me assemble the canopy, and take it down when it is time to pack it up.
Kevin is a veteran and is making good decisions about his life. Thanks Kevin for your service to our country. I am proud to call you a friend.
I'll probably be the one to fall asleep in the parking lot this year... Since I am the official TGO/G-17 old timer, I will probably drool, snore, and fart, all at the same time...

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
I am so ready for G-17.
We had 8.5 inches of snow last night in Bryson City. Time for winter to END and spring to START.
Amanda (the 86WS6) is tucked in her trailer, which is covered with snow. The heat is on inside of the trailer, and the 86WS6 is snug as a bug inside. The 82WS7 is tucked in in the garage. Both of the T/A girls are itching for summer.
The 86WS6 is named for the original owner, Amanda Crowe, who was a prominate Cherokee artist.
The 82WS7 does not have a name yet. Chad Pool suggested "Albino Knightrider." Another friend suggested "White Rider." Neither of those sound very good to me. Lets hear some ideas?

You can see the front of Amanda's trailer in in this shot. 90 degrees in the Marriott parking sounds pretty good right now...

You can have that white stuff. We've been complaining about 55 degree weather down here. I've been listening to my daughter complain about the white stuff too. They had snow for like 7 fridays in a row.
And Kevin, go right ahead and take your naps. I wish I could but they usually give me headaches. And thank you for your service. That is the reason for the Memorial day weekend. We just celebrate it with a car party/show.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
I hope we are done with snow for this year. That's part of living in the Smokies. It can snow here as late as mid May here, however we are usually done with winter by April. That sort of weather just makes summer seem a little sweeter. Come one G-17!!!
Kevin, you have to fill us in with the details about your experience with Wyotech. Have you discharged from the AF?
Danny, you, Lu Ann, and mom have a safe and fun trip to OK and back.
Tony, there are a couple of Camaro parts cars around here for sale. Most of them that I have seen so far are 84 & 85 models, and one 86. What year nose's fit your car?
Found a nice 35 foot open wedge style car trailer with a goose neck hitch for $3200.00. It is a 91 model, but has not seen much use. It is straight, no rust, has new paint, and near new tires. It is designed to haul two cars. My preference is a 37 foot bumper pull enclosed, however for the price this unit will work for a while. Now if I can just figure out how to raise the cash without Betty finding out and before someone else buys it.

I think 85 and up is all the same as long as it doesn't have the slits (Berlinetta) in it.
You can keep that snow to yourself Charles. We actually had flurries down here on Monday, but it was just flurries and it went away.
That trailer sounds like a winner, good price for a two car hauler. If you got that GTA though, you would need a three car hauler? Oh hell just get a car transport trailer and call it a day.

There is one person ahead of me on the trailer. If he does not complete the deal by Saturday, then I get a chance at it.
Tony, glad to hear that you found your parts.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
Have we run out of things to talk about?
The other party bought the trailer, so I am still looking for one.
Since I did not win the Power Ball and am on a strict budget, I may not find a trailer in my price range.
We decided to pass on the GTA. It was in worse condition then I thought it was. Sort of a patched together mess.
I would still like to bring both cars. I washed the 82 this weekend, the first time I have ever washed it, and wow, is that thing shiny. The first week home and the power window on the passenger side stuck down, so I have not been able to wash the car. I thought the paint was a little oxidized, but it was just dusty. You can see your reflection in the sides of the car. There is no oxidation anywhere on the car, just a couple of very small scratches that I have to figure out how to touch up.
As much as I hate the thought, I may make two trips and bring both cars down. That means I will have to take the 82 back on Sunday, and be back for the awards on Sunday evening.
We'll see...

Hello everyone!
I fully intend on being at G17 this year.
So much to do, so little time to do it in.
I will be in a Bright Red 1989 Firebird.
The 93 T/A is my back up, just in case.
First long distance trip for this '89.
Sometimes you just gotta have faith!!
Charles, your old Formula rims look good on my Formula.
I hope to see your 82, it looks nice.
Hope to see you all there.
I would be leaving for Atlanta on Thursday Morning
and going back to Louisiana on Monday morning.

How did you finish those Formula wheels? I have always wanted to have a set of those powder coated in mat black.

Tony, I have a good cornhole set I can bring if you guys want. Hopefully I can come by Friday night, I apparently have to be out of town for most of the day Friday for family stuff unfortunately.
Waiting to hear back from Joe's, she is supposed to go throught her notes about the food discount we used to get etc and email me back? Didn't sound like it would be an issue though. I will let you guys know when it is all confirmed and get with Andy.

Luke's here. Sorry I'm a slacker been busy lately. I will probably not be bring the car it just ain't ready. Just started body work, so I gotta do all that, build engine/trans, and put the sucker back together. It's just a rolling shell right now in my driveway. Kinda running low on funding because I started throwing all these nice parts at it haha figured why not while its stripped down to nothing. Still got a lot to do.
Charles, if you're cool with it, I would be willing to drive Amanda down for you. That way ya got both there!

Sorry your car is not ready. I'm glad to hear that you are coming though. Lots of others will be glad to hear that you are coming also. Maybe you will have your car ready for next year?
Thanks for the offer to drive Amanda down to G-17. Your offer is very generous. I checked the mileage from your house to mine, and it is about the same distance as it is from my house to Marietta. That would either require me to haul the car to Chattanooga or for you to come to Bryson City. Either way, it will take a lot of extra effort and time. Than I still have to get both cars back home after G-17.
When we leave G-17 on Monday morning we are planning go to Valdosta to visit family for the rest of the week. We will take the trailer with Amanda with us, and then haul it back to NC when we return home. It tows really well behind our F-350. The truck performs like it does bob-tail, and still manages to get 15 MPG towing at 70 MPH on the highway. That old 7.3 PS coupled to the 6 speed stick with 4:10 gears is a real stump pulling beast, even if it does have the F word for a name... One has to check the mirror to see if the trailer is still behind the truck.
I have also been making a list of things that I want to do to the 82 before showing it. Nothing big, but many small time consuming items. The car has been lightly used, kept in an air conditioned building, and is overall in good condition. I am very OCD about stuff and the car is is 30 years old. The previous owner did nothing to the car himself. Everything was done by a shop, so small stuff got neglected. The car has lots of small detail items that I want to be perfect before bringing it to a Gathering. I think that all things considered, it will be best to leave the 82 at home this year.
Hopefully later this year, I will purchase a trailer that will haul two cars. I am stuck between a 53 foot enclosed gooseneck and a 38 foot enclosed bumper pull. The TA's are almost 16 feet long, so with a few inches between them I need 34 feet of floor space in a trailer. We also do some club stuff with our two Crown Vics, and I want to be able to haul those at times when we want both cars at an event. The 07 is a police interceptor, and it makes an awesome auto cross car. I have yet to measure one of those cars to see the length needed.
If we decide on a bumper pull trailer, I am planning to purchase a small slide in camper for the F-350. That way we can camp when we tow either the car trailer or our boat. If we decide on the 53 foot gooseneck, I will build an RV in the front of the trailer leaving enough floor space to haul the cars. We will have a custom fabricated boat trailer made that will allow us to load the boat inside of the goose neck trailer for travel. It will be what is known as a marina trailer, just big enough to move the boat around in close quarters, but not set up for the highway. When we arrive at the lake, we can unload the boat and use the custom trailer to launch it. Then the space inside of the gooseneck will be available for extra living space. Put a clear plastic zipper door over the rear opening, block the ramp so that it sits level, add a screened room over the loading ramp, and have a porch for camping. You get the idea, sort of an all purpose rig that we can use for car events, boating, and camping. This is going to be my retirement toy.
Anyway, back to G-17. We plan to bring the one car, and are very much looking forward to the Gathering.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
Car or not, I'll try my best to never miss a gathering! But this will be my only one without a car of my own. I might try to bring my buddys 87 IROC down. Not to show or nothing just to have an f-body to drive. It needs some tlc and paint but I don't care. It's one of the ones that's red as red can be. That maroon kinda exterior, and all red interior. That's a overkill of red right there I can't stand it haha it'd still be fun anyway.
If anyone needs a driver or help getting another car there, I'd be willing to help anyone out with it. Just let me know. Looking forward to another fun year, can't wait! Even though I don't have a car.

Hi Luke, Cool!
Hope you can borrow your friend's red/red car.
Is Chad coming with you this year?
If you can't get a car to drive down, on our way down Betty and I can swing over to Chattanooga and pick you up, if you want us to? We will be coming down on Thursday morning.
You are also welcome to ride along with me to the dinner cruise, and to Vengence Racing on Sunday. Betty is going to visit her sister in Carrollton GA, about an hour away while I am at G-17. I will be there solo this year, but will probably go and pick up Betty and Jan on Sunday afternoon.

If anyone is interested, this is the trailer that I want to buy. It is the 36 foot tri-axle model. With the V-nose option it is 40 feet long. It will not be this year though. I am still looking for a good deal on an open 34-36 trailer to use in the mean time.

This is the truck camper we are considering to haul on Big Red.

Now you can picture this rig all together with the two thirdgens tucked inside heading for the Gathering.

Hey gents, looking forward to another weekend of action. Will be there with my car, new Mrs., and will arrive on Thurs night. Been a busy year though not much with ride. New rubber and new speakers and that's about it. She sees a lot of road time on weekends still and looking forward to the longer drive up there. Might try some backroads this time around.

Glad to hear ya'll are coming again this year Brian. We may pass you on the way back from OK LOL.
Luke, get off the net and get your car together. LOL 21 is on the way!
I got my '69 TA last year at the Gathering. Fit nicely in the back of my Camaro. LOL 1/24 scale! Hope you do find a way to get both cars down this year Charles. Let me know if we can help.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27
Will not be attending, again. I am somewhat disappointed, however, it's okay. The car cleans up nice but I'm not happy with how it sits. Hopefully next year I will be happy with the progress I make on it(if any.)
It has been in the mid to high 80s these past couple weeks and my A/C is losing the battle to keep my house cool. I'm breaking a sweat just typing this. With the baby on the way in Sept. I need to change out the original(1978) windows and add some insulation in the attic. By the age and sound of the A/C, it too will need replacing soon.
Another reason is my job has been so busy lately(which is good,) that they have been forced to change the schedule. Don't have enough vacation time built up to be able to attend.
I hope you all have a fun and safe one!!

Thanks for the offer on giving me a ride down Charles. I have class Monday-Friday 8 hours a day so I can't come down on Thursday. I would love to come early and help setup though if I was able too. Even if I can't get the red car to drive, I still got my good ole 4.3l S-10 I'll just drive down. Hopefully though, I'll find someone's F-body to take down. Can't wait! Time can't go by fast enough!
