My car should be back in one piece by then, hopefully.

We have had a steady growing group of 3rd genners the last few years. Lets try to get an even bigger group than in the past! Spread the word!

Hopefully we will have a great turn out for G-17. It would be cool to have more thirdgens there than 4th gens.

What are you doing to your car?

We will bring the 12 x 20 canopy again this year for the TGO section.

Do we want to organize a dinner cruise this year?

We have two thirdgens now, an 82WS7 and the 86WS6. I would love to bring both of them to G-17. I have not figured out how to get both cars to Atlanta and back without a lot of hassle and a lot of expense. The 82WS7 that I bought in June is all original, including the OE tires. The car has 24,300 actual miles on it and looks great. It runs decent for a car that has spent most of its life sitting in a garage. Although we drive the old time capsule up and down the road that we live on, I don't trust those 30 year old tires, hoses, belts, fuel hoses, brake hoses, ect., on the highway. Trailering the car is the only safe and secure way to get it there and back. The only problem is that the trailer I own is only large enough for one car at a time. If I can find a double car trailer (gooseneck or bumper pull) to rent, we will bring both of them.

Ian Kee of Kee Audio helped me with the restoration of the Performance Sound system in the 86. The system is fully functional now with new custom 4 inch subwoofers, working Delco subwoofer amplifier, and 4 new custom 4 x 6 speaker plates. It does not sound bad for 80's technology. It is interesting to see and hear a working Performance Sound system after all of these years. I have a 12 disc remote mounted CD player wired in to play through the OE Head unit. If I have to choose which car to bring to G-17 it will be the 86.

Lets hear some ideas of what everyone wants to do for G-17.

Charles

Would be great to outnumber the 4th gens, especially for those that have been going for a while and remember the days when we were the red headed step child of the f body world..

My car was in a wreck and had the front end ripped off. Taking the down time to do a full repaint and change the hood/spoiler. Long overdue, and lots of work, but I should be back on the road before the show.

The canopy is always great, thank you for bringing it Charles. We should try and ask for a few extra spots for the canopy and to make sure everyone can park together this year.

I'm down for dinner cruise.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

I am planing to purchase a banner for the Thirdgen.org group like in the past. The 2011 banner was made by BannersOnTheCheap. It was really cool, done well, and could be read from anywhere on the grounds. The 2012 banner from Vistaprint was pale, poorly made, and generally a disappointment. Did I mention that it was a POS? So with that in mind, I will be purchasing the 2013 banner from BannersOnTheCheap. I may have rode the short bus, but eventually catch on.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

its almost time isnt it? i was looking to be back in afghanistan but as of recent its not going to happen....so....

lets get this party started. my car has been down due to fuel injector issues however, it will be up and going as i plan to drive it up there this time.

kevin is up in the north and should be posting anytime. he plans to be there. im talking to a few fbody freaks in my area trying to get them to go.

we need to get some sort of headcount and plan going so when we ask for more spaces its justified. id also love to see more third gens. over the last few years we have been growing. lets double it.

we should decide the dinner cruise for saturday evening. suggestions from the locals?

this years theme is a tropical hawaii theme i believe. grass skirts, straw hats, hawaiian shirts and lais. we need to come up with a theme for the canopy and challenge for club display..charles, just a thought, but what if the banner is designed to the theme this year?

thoughts, suggestions, questions, etc ?

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

Hi Tony,

Glad to hear that you will be able to come to G-17.

Did you purchase another Camaro for your daughter?

Maybe Kevin will bring that funky beer cooler again this year?

The "boat" as you call it, will be available again this year for beer runs.

The theme is "F Bodies in Paradise", so yeah, it's tropical with a Jimmy Buffet twist.

Maybe we can decorate the canopy to look like a grass hut?

Incorporating the theme into the banner sounds like a cool idea. I will have to look at the available backgrounds that are offered from that company and see if they offer a background with a tropical theme.

She isnt sure just yet what she wants so we havent bought anything yet. I actually have the cooler and will have it there this year.

grass hut is a good idea. on saturday evening, thats when the other clubs or groups dress out and set up thier theme display. this is where we need to come up with something. if everyone brings a little something we should do pretty well. maybe we should bring a cooker and boil some shrimp....

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

Cool idea about the cooker Tony. Some boiled shrimp sounds great!

Betty has already asked me if Kevin will be there.

The only problem is that the hotel has a rule against cooking in the parking lot. Grills mostly, however that probably includes other types of cooking.

Of course having a rule and enforcing it is two different things. They don't seem to say anything as long as no one is behaving in a dangerous manner. It may help that we have several law enforcement officers in our group?

As for the space and location, Chad has been very accomidating in the past. I doubt if he cares were we park as long as everyone is happy.

In 2011 we were on row 4. In 2012 we were assigned to row 5. Row 4 was for general F-body parking, however we ended up spilling over to row 4. Either one is cool with me, as there is a 120 volt outlet on a lamp pole between the two rows. That came in handy last year.

The Rev Zone folks have a generator. It was cool to have access to power for your cooler, tools, and such.

I will try to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest, so we can stake out the spots we want.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

Saturday is the dinner cruise day. So if we are going to "sponsor" it we probably need to let Chad and them know. Joe's Crab Shack where we used to go would fit in well with the theme of the weekend. I think one of the organizers knew someone there, we used to get discounts at least.

If you guys want to sneak a shrimp boil in instead thats cool, or if you want to do it another night or cruise to a different place thats fine too. As always I'm local so I can try to work on stuff on this end if need be.

I think the no cooking thing is a hotel rule for safety and because they want people to eat at their restraunt. The show people try to not to **** off the hotel so we can still do the show there, but if no one notices...

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

the shrimp cooker idea really was a jimmy buffet joke (margaritaville). it was to be in the theme this year....although a margarita machine sounds better.

i dont think cooking in our area is all worth it honestly. its too busy and hot.

why dont we go ahead and tell chad we will host the cruise? there is varsity, dave and busters, and joes crab shack.

we got a little time to come up with the ideas and plan. for some of us we know exactly what to expect, how to plan, what will work and not.

1. how many are going to be there?
2. what do we have and what would we need?
3. theme display ideas?
4. cruise idea?

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

Just FYI, it looks like High School graduation in the area is that Saturday again as well. This had not been an issue in the past as it was always later. Unfortunately this is what caused the cluster at D&B last year, so we could expect that again this year if that is where we went. This will effect most of the restaurants right around the show. Downtown is crowded with tons of traffic on Saturday afternoons as well and it would be impossible to navigate a large group through there.

There is another Varisty north of the show with a big parking lot that would not be that crowded. Pretty close to Joe's really. I would reccomend we go up towards this direction, nice short cruise, not a ton of traffic or people, at least comparitively speaking. There are a lot of other restaurants in the area, some crowded, some not. I can't think of any with a room we could get like Joe's but I'm open to ideas.

It would be nice to get a room at D&B or something, but these places usually charge you for the room and make you prepay for stuff. They are typically used for banquets, meetings, and stuff like that.

As far as a number for the cruise it always seems to be about 25 cars and 30-40 people.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

Jordan, I like the idea of going to Joe's Crab Shack. They are able to handle the crowd without it being a problem for them or us. D&B's was a CF, and it was not anyone's fault. No one sponsered the cruise last year. Someone suggested D&B's, and we all just piled in our cars and drove there.

D&B's could be a nice cruise, however who wants to pay extra to get a large dining room so everyone can eat together, when we can get that for free at Joe's Crab Shack. As already mentioned, Joe's fits the theme this year.

Going north seems to be a more logical choice, as downtown traffic can be awful. Does anyone really like the food at the Varsity? To me the Varsity offers that 1950's drive in style, which is cool, but the food and the service suck. Add to that the downtown traffic, and it is not worth the effort. However, I will not be the spolier. If the majority decide to go to the Varsity, we will be there.

Jordan, thanks for offering to set this up.

Last year, I had mentiioned to Russ and Chad that we were thinking about hosting the cruise in 2013. Jordan, if everyone agrees, are you willing to contact Chad and discuss the logistics?

That's my 2 cents.

Joe's seems like the best option to me as well. But like I have said before I am local and it really doesn't matter that much to me. This is more for you guys so if someone else wants to do something different I will try to get it set up.

I will shoot Chad a message on the gathering forums and go from there.

I agree with you all. this is why it good to have boots on the ground. Either Joes or Varsity works for me.

Im also going to reach out on all the sites to contact te magazines to come to the show. I am suprised Camaro Performers hasnt been there. Lets make alot of noise on this one too.

Chad said to do your worst lol. I guess we will need to make sure we can use the domain, I will start barking up that tree as well.

I will wait a little bit to see if anyone objects to the place but I'm gonna try and see if I can get the contact for Joe's if we need to go through someone specific to get the discount.

I go every year, but have never paid to put my car in with everyone else's. I did with my old 2nd gen once though. I will put mine in this year. Just had it painted and am getting ready to put some new shoes on her.

Jordan, if you are talking about the TGO site, I have PM'd the administrators several times over the years, and never gotten any answer. Before we flew the first TGO banner on my canopy in 2011 and registered at the gathering as Thirdgen.org, I sent PM's to the administrators requesting permission for us to register as Thirdgen.org. Got No reply.

It seems like they are not concerned with the use of the domain as long as it is thirdgen oriented, and we don't break the rules. It seems to me that if they endorse us, they may be held liable if something goes wrong. If they ignore us, they can remain free from liability, as they never gave us permission to use the TGO name for our group in the first place.

If we were the h*** rasing group, starting trouble at the gatherings, than they might have to intervene. We would probably be banned from the site. Since we have demonstrated that we use some common sense, and have always presented ourselves as members of Thirdgen.org in a positive manner, it does not seem to be an issue. I feel certain that they are monitoring our activities both here and at the gatherings. If we shown our butts Chad would contact Thirdgen.org.

As for posting a cruise event on the Gathering site, there should be no problem at all. Chad as already given you permission.

Thanks for offering to do the ground work for this.

Hey, speak for yourself! I sent JT a message, as you eluded there probably will not be a reply, but at least we asked. Simply not saying no should be good enough, and from some of the bad press several years back from other folks I can understand.

Chad said he would post up the even when we got it all figured out. So whenever you guys are comfortable with a place I can go scope it out. Not sure if you wanna wait for Kevin and some of the others to chime in or just go ahead and do the thing.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

i had spoke with admin last year wanting to create a gathering post section for this specific show and was told we will get back to you. im sure its alot of time and they get busy, so i really have no complaints. we are representing thirdgen.org and have not had a problem or embarrasing issue in the past. i dont forsee an issue.

i vote for joes crabshack. lots of parking, pleant of room and it was sucessful before. lets get chad to post it up

next issues: more thirdgens to show and ride.
theme display?

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

My first thought is that it might be a good idea to wait a couple of weeks, to give others a chance to chime in. However, I don't want to creat a time crunch for you Jordan, Since no one else is stepping foreward to do the ground work, when ever you feel like it is time to start setting things up, it's cool. Being local, you have insights that the rest of us don't have.

My first pick is Joe's, however what ever everyone else wants is cool with me. Jordan, since you are dealing with the logistics, I will defer to your best judgement.

Have you all seen the video that Fran posted?

I will try to link it into this tread.

Several members have noted, our banner needs to BIGGER and BRIGHTER. I will be looking into that for this year.

It's apparent that others are reading this tread. Maybe some of them will start to join in the conversation.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

We have a banner.

In previous years the banner has been 2 feet high x 5 feet long.

This year's banner is 4 feet high x 10 feet long.

Re: F Body Gathering Atlanta Memorial Weekend May 24-27

I'm in no rush, so take your time fellas. I'm down with Joe's too.

Banner looks great! How big is the canopy?

I did ask if we could get a forum as well, but not sure since the show is not thirdgen specific as the others are.. and we all know how things like that have gone in the past. I did get a reply back from JT saying he would review and reply to me, will keep you guys in the loupe.

Tony, I was not referring to anything we had done. There was a bad car wreck at the show ages ago that got some bad press. We all know we behave like saints.

Jordan, Thanks for making contact with JT. Hopefully they can grant your request for a forum. The gathering may not be exclusively thirdgen, however it does promote interests in thirdgens and an excellent forum for these cars to gain respect. Other gen owners get a chance to see up close that thirdgens look pretty cool! They also see that we are a serious group of hobbiest, and that some of these cars are being saved. It is an opportunity for others to get the chance to see what can be done with a thirdgen.

The canopy is 12 x 20. It the same one that we used the last two years.

As for the banner. Glad you all are OK with it. It turned out to be difficult to design a banner with a tropical theme and still be respectful of those who's sacrifices make Memorial Day possible. Several of us worked on it all evening and part of the night. Everything with a tropical theme looked to whimsical. Maybe I worry too much, but did not want it to come across as a mockery of Memorial Day. We finally dropped the tropical theme part of it, and then the design became easy.

Several people, over the years, have quit coming to the gatherings because of the rules being tightened after that fatal accident. The original gatherings were comprised mostly of racers. After the accident, the future of the gatherings was not certain. Andy and Chad had little choice but to tightnen up the rules. There is still room for plenty of fun. Some years, clubs have hosted time at a local drag strip. Dragstrip time is a great way for the racers among us to get to show what their cars can do. That might be something to look at if there is enough interests. Personally, I would love to host an event to allow us to lap a circle track sometime.

We are not a group are not angels, but we are supposed to be. We are also not that bad either. We don't bother anyone else, and don't act in a dangerous manner towards ourselves or any other people. Those in our group who like to drink and party do so without causing problems for anyone. Everyone still seems to have a great time. We are friendly to others and an asset to the gatherings. Last year a 5th gen owner and some 4th gen owners parked with us. I am OK with anyone who wants to park with and hangout with us. I think that our behavior as a club has been a perfect balance.

Hopefully other potential G-17 attendies will post on this tread soon. It will be nice to know what everyone is thinking/planning?

Jordan, has JT contacted you?

When ever you want to contact Joe's Crab Shack is cool with me.

The banner is complete and has been shipped.

JT only contacted me to say he would contact me, which might be the only contact I get.

I know Luke doesn't get on here, but should we PM some of the other memebers to inform them of this thread? It is a good ways off so some folks might not be thinking of it yet, but might want to be in the loop.

I have Luke's personal e-mail address, and we message back and forth. I will contact him.

It's a good thing that they opened registration early. It may bolster attendence, and it gives those of us who are sick and tired of ice and snow something to look forward to. COME ON SPRING TIME!

I know there is a Triad F body club that comes down to this show. Not sure if you will be in that area but I would bet they could tell you more about the local clubs up there.

We don't mind driving in with anyone who is coming through the far western side of North Carolina, near Knoxville Tenn. We will be going down on Thursday the 23rd and will be hauling one or both (if I can find a two car trailer) of the TA's behind our crewcab dually pickup.

Hi Ricky,

Congrats on the twins!

Our family has several sets of twins and triplets. Multiples are a blast.

Glad to hear that you will be there. The paint job is not important.

We don't care if someone's car is a show car or not. The gathering is all about everyone getting together and having a great time. The show is a very small part of the gathering. Some people attend who don't own an F-body. They just like the people and are fans of the cars. If anyone is thinking about not attending because thier car isn't done, don't worry about it. There will be 100 point trailer queens there for sure, and there will also be some cars there that have seen better days. I always enjoy the seeing the cars that are in various stages of restoration. It is not easy to tackle rebuilding a car that is 20 to 30 years old, and not everyone can do that type of work. Anyone who has the passion for this hobby, has our respect. It is not about what the cars are. It is about what they can become. Most of us persue this hobby on a budget, and our cars are works in progress. Many of you are young, with families, and other responsibities. There is no shame in not being able to compete with the folks who can afford a 1000 point concourse car.

Hey ya'll. I've been kind of quiet on here lately but it looks like last years crowd will be there again. We have been looking forward to this since last year. We'll will be there for sure. I liked the Varsity as for the cruise but whatever ya'll decide, we're in. Charles the banner looks great, as always. If anyone is going to Myrtle for the run to the sun let me know. I'd like to see a few more third gens there too.

Hi Danny, Glad you and Lu Ann are on board for G-17.

For anyone who is new to the gatherings, you have got to check out Danny's ride. Danny's car is one sweet build. I did not see the car before he restored it, but it sounds like it was a basket case. One would never know it now though, as it is as professional of a build as is possible. Formerly a hardtop car, Danny converted it to a T-top. From the fit and finish, it looks like it was built as a T-top car. On second thought, the factory fit and finish on any thirdgen never looked that good.
