Car: 91 & 88 GTA, 89 Formy, 89 bird
Engine: 3 - 350 TPI, 305 TBI
Transmission: All 700R4's
Axle/Gears: unknown
Bought in 11/12, painted 10/13........
Before I start, yes I have the following:
1988 Pontiac GTA - 5.7 TPI Hardtop Black/Beechwood interior, digital dash
1989 Pontiac Firebird Formula - 5.? T-Top White/Gray Interior
1991 Pontiac GTA - 5.7 TPI Hardtop Red/Beechwood interior
My Daily Driver's are a 92 Camry and a 1991 Cherokee
The Camry is over 200,000 miles and the Jeep is approaching 280,000 miles.
The Camry needs some attention as well as the Jeep.
So I need a Daily Driver that I can feel comfortable in and and drives good.
Reliable and not too expensive on repair parts.
So I bought another 1989 Firebird - 5.0 tbi hardtop.
I had to do some repairs since the purchase back in November 2012
and still have more to go before I start driving it daily.
Both Quarters had some dents to pull out,
but except for the battery tray - there is no serious rust issues.
The Previous owner, who owns/operates his own repair shop in New Orleans did not maintain this car to any mechanical and electrical standard that I know of. I would NEVER let him touch ANYTHING I own.
(ie: blue masking tape should never be used as electrical tape) or
(ie: Utility Tape or Duct Tape is not the right way to attach access panels to the floor of the car)
I have repaired about 95% of the creative repairs done to this car.
I have also changed the interior to Tan from Gray.
A Formula Style hood has been replaced on this car as well.
Factory Hieght
Factory Rims (Steel)
Factory Drivetrain
Since the purchase, I have:
01. Replaced the center link and Idler Arm
02. Replaced the rear wheel cylinders, shoes, brake spring kit.
and some parts that the previous owner thought were not required.
03. Replaced the Master Cylinder and Vacuum Assist.
04. Replaced the Interior Heater Box and core
05. Replaced the Alternator
06. Replaced the Battery (previous battery was the wrong size)
07. Changed the interior color to Tan
08. Installed a Radio.
09. Installed a Overhead Console
10. Recovered the Headliner and Visors
11. Put on 2 new tires with the Pontiac Ralleye II Rims
12. Changed the Spark Plugs
13. Connected all the Vacuum hoses
14. Got a "formy" style hood
15. Replaced one tail ilght
16. Replaced hood and Hatch struts
17. Replaced the shifter cable
18. Remove the purple and "bubbled" window tint.
19. Got an alignment and 2 tires
20. Installed a 91 Firebird dash
21. Horn don't work - FIXED
22. Lights go up, don't go down - fixed
23. Need rear shocks - REPLACED
24. Get the electric fan working CORRECTLY, not constant. - FIXED
25. Get the Radio Working - REPLACED
26. Replace the drivers door mirror - manual remote is broken - REPLACED
27. Got a set of rims
I still have a few here and there things to do:
01. Got a to freshen up the engine bay
02. Seats and door panels need to be reupholstered.

This when I purchased it.
Although it had a factory hood, i had already replaced it.
The Gathering in Atlanta, The HO Down in Pensacola and even Cruisin the Coast 2013 has past.
The original person that said he would paint it, didn't. He got a new job at a dealership in the
Body department, and i guess, didn't want to do the same thing when he got home. He is very
talented and still a friend, but had the car in March/April time frame. In August I asked if it was
in my interest to find another painter, he said yes and I did!
Now here is where it is yesterday

and I will be using these rims

Putting it together takes sooooo much more time than taking apart.
The front nose is 90% done
The back bumper and lights are IN !
Put all new weatherstripping in. (including window sweeps.
The driver's door is now hard to close.
The passenger door has yet to be finished
The handles and mirrors are on.
Put the hatch back on tonite.
Also got bothe headlight assemblies in and the passenger side is adjusted.
Taking a break Wednesday, back to it on Thursday

Looks good!
Gotta love how long it takes to reassemble a car after paint... you gotta be so careful!
