Haha, you guys are too funny. Its a furnished pickup truck pretty much. Made 10+ trips to new jersey and back, and pulls the 20ft pontoon boat with ease.

Hey G how those brakes coming?

Sorry I can't be there bud.

I'm starting to think my starter is bad. Everything is wired correctly, but it doesn't do anything when I turn the key.

I found an 87 Iroc close to me for $1750 that apparently has a 397 stroker and a rust free body. Awfully tempted to just spend the money I have for the floorpans on buying that and rebuild that car's rear with all the parts I bought months ago.

You should buy that 87 and sell me yours as a roller cheap for a 455/t350 swap lol. All the swaps going on and the bug has bit me. But the turbo 2.8 is staying in mine for a little while.

I'm just being impatient about finishing my car. But if I were to buy the 87, my dad wouldn't let me sell mine anways since he likes it too much, lmfao.

And yeah, I really want to do a swap too, but then again, I could just put a decent sized turbo on the 305 after I build it up a bit and be happy.

That's what I'll probably do with this 327.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

Argh! The 87 is really tempting, but I don't think I'd get the same satisfaction just from buying a running car with a good body. After I do all the work on my car I think I'll feel really accomplished with myself.

My goal for an et on the motor alone is mid 10's after I get the fast efi system. 9's or lower would be awesome with a turbo.

Look took me two weeks to do the 2.8 to 3.4 swap. But I had everything ready and had another car to drive.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

yea, I was totally unprepared for the 2.8 to die on me. It suddenly developed a bad knock in the bottom end that got real bad in the 12 miles to my house that day. We took it out, found most of the bearings were slipping, one was about to fall out, the lifters were dished, cam was ate up, and everything in the bottom end on the ol' motor just showed it's age/neglect by all of the PO's. I didn't find the 3.4 until January on craigslist, then I had to get all of the $$ for parts for it (long list) and then it went in the car in June. On top of that, I don't have a garage, so I was stuck with the elements, so if it rained on a weekend, I was screwed. Luckily, my mother-in-law has her Camry, so that got me to work and back.
So yea, maybe we'll have our meet again, I couldn't make the last one because of work, so here's hoping we all get to hang out and be car nerds.

So, Ducky, Will, Charcoal and whoever, if we're all free Saturday, I'm not busy during the day. I know Duck, Will and myself are with a few minutes of each other. Ducky, is that deathstar of yours fully functional? We could find a place, grab a bite, scare some locals.

I was thinking the Sonic on the corner of 301 and Pretty Pond Road in Zepherhills.

What do you think?

As I said thought I might not be able to do this weekend but next would probably be better

Not yet, I'm having a hard time getting it to suck fuel.

In ~two months when everybody's car is in working order and can drive a decent distance, we should set up an official meet since it seems like there's a pretty good amount of people wanting to met up now, just that the cars are out of order atm, lol.

Yeah lol. I finally figured out why my pump won't pull fuel. There's a bolt that's supposed to hold the arm in place that my friend pulled out when he pulled the motor. So I have to reinstall my pump now.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

Ordering the floorpans tomorrow. I priced out all the welding supplies I need and it'll be a little bit over $1000
So now I'm wondering if I should still weld everything myself or save up a little bit more money and take it to a good place I know for them to do it.

Woot Woot! Get it done bro! We need more thirdgens at the meets.

I would suggest getting the welding supplies and practice with some scrap. A welder is a great tool to have.

While I agree with Will, I'd say pay the little extra to have it done right the first time. Practice on something not so critical.

These are both the points I have been making with myself. I'd love to get the skill of welding, while I'd really like having the metalwork done properly and not have to worry about my work not being up to par on pretty much what holds the two halfs of my car together.

Very good points. Do what you feel comfortable with.

How much of the floor pan are doing? All of it? I say do it yourself. Practice with a piece of scrap and once you get it down how you like do it to the floor. Watch some videos as well. Someone posted a good video in the auto appearance and detailing section...Will look for it and try to repost it.

Yeah, it's everything; from the front seam under the dash all the way back to the hump behind the rear seats. I'm leaning more towards the do it myself route so that I will have the skill for future projects, and because welding's a good skill to have.

I've been researching a lot about welding techniques and watching videos as well, so more videos are welcome

I have watched my father weld for years. I finally started welding on my own at the beginning of this year when I started the turbo swap. My first weld was actually pretty good. It was the stainless steel vband welded to mild steel.

I didn't practice on scrap, my practice was my exhaust from the turbo back. Lol.

As long as you practice till you feel comfortable. What you want to hear when welding sounds like cooking bacon. Also practice on different thickness metals, to learn the settings on the welder.

As I said before, its a very handy skill to have, so if you have the opportunity to pick it up, I would do so. I didnt regret it.
