He is using a mech pump with the stock v6 mpfi tank. We think he may have the mech pump connected to the wrong hose cause it won't pull fuel.

I believe its still there, and now that you mention it, it could be part of the problem. He's trying to pull through it, is it getting blocked by the electric pump in tank? Doesn't seem too far fetched.

I would agree, aside from the fact I've seen it done with the electric pump still there. Buddy of mine is going to come by today and help me out.

If we can't get it going I'm just going to order a AFPR and braided line and keep the intank pump.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

its been done before. if hes gonna keep the mechanical that's gotta go.

if he hasn't removed the electic pump, id keep that a use a return style regulator. esp if upgrades are in the future.

he could use a non return regulator, and deadhead the system. I did that foe awhile when I went carb.

I wish I would have kept my in pump. I went external. I wanna go to a xfi next year, and will be going back to the in-pump

I'm surprised you haven't done that already, lol. Its how I would do a carbd swap. F the mech pump lol.

Then again, I dont think I would ever do a carb swap in my car, unless the first thing I am doing to it is converting it to efi off the bat.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

use compressed air in your supply line. If you don't hear bubbles in your tank, the pump is a restriction, or your using the wrong line

Not sure if your intank pump is the same as mine, but for a couple of weeks after I rewired my whole car and got rid of the computer, I didn't have any power going to the intank pump and my highpower mechanical pump pulled fuel just fine.

For those of you who are welders...I am planning on purchasing a welder. My father and I have a 69' Mustang Fastback that needs new quarter panels and quite a bit more. Is this welder ideal for that?

Would it also handle some sub-frame connectors?

This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday it is $84.99.

If not, recommendations?

We have a MIG 175 220 volt from eastwood and its great. We use the spool gun for aluminum. Its very versatile.

The price would be a bit higher, but this time of the year itll probably be cheaper.

Go with a MIG, at least 125, 220volt. And spend the money now on gas tanks and you will be set. Yes the smaller tanks are cheaper, but they run out fast. We have a 6ft tall tank for steel and a 2 1/2 ft tall tank for aluminum. Dont quite remember the specific classifications for the tanks.

Flux core is ok, but welding with gas is superior in just about every way. Typically flux core is best for windy/extremely windy conditions.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

Thanks for the info.. I read basically the same info on a car restoration website about welders. So I'm looking at spending basically $300-500 on a decent one. Definitely don't want to skimp out on something like this. According to the website as well, it would take about an hour of practice to get comfortable and make uniformed welds.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

i've been through a few of those flux core welders. IMO, they're tricky to use especially "out of posistion". they make a LOT of splatter mess. so expect to do a ton of grinding.
i do like them for exhaust that doesnt need to be pretty or odd jobs. plus they're 110 volt and easily portable.

i'd recommend a better machine that uses gas. it will be worth the extra expense. i wouldnt want to weld quarter panels with a flux core.

i've done SFC's and a stainless street roll cage though with the cheap HF welder, lol.

That sounds about right. Don't forget tanks, the initial investment on the tanks can be pricey, but once you have it all you do is trade in an empty tank for a full one and really only pay for a refill. Then its all your consumables, tips, wire, brushes, tip cleaners, etc...

Like I said, the initial investment will take a hit to your wallet, but a welder is something you really don't want to skimp on.

Would be cool to have a meet with some daylight but I was thinking around 7pm cause you get off around 4 Jim.

Time is not set in stone though.

Haha, if only $3,000 would cover the rest of the repairs for my Mercedes.

I'm going to go with this motor for the car. Can be had for around $4,000, 5.5l bi-turbo V12.

Scratch that idea. Its got 2 plugs per cylinder, and each coil "pack" is $1,300. MegaSquirt couldn't control that motor no matter what I did. But, all it not lost. The older M120 6.0 V12 can be controlled by a MS3.

This is the original idea for the Mercedes.

Haha. Yea. Right. Lol.

No really though, yours should have been running by now lol. I hope mine is only a flexplate, sure didnt sound like one though.

I would have assumed the flexplate would frag pushing the car to 110+ wot in boost if it was cracked.

Then again if it was detonating I would have assumed it would have died many wot shots ago.

Its a 305 carbureted with a Edelbrock 1406 and a aftermarket distributor. Also has a 5 speed manual. Other than the current fuel issue i still love it.
Welcome to the disfunctional thread of the CFLers! Lol.

This is the original idea for the Mercedes.

Flex plate will hold because its bolted to the converter. When mine failed the center of it came out. Lol.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

So Will, if we can find a benefactor to give us $2600, we can split the '89 327 every other week haha! Also, if you do end up swapping to the 3.4, I can drop by and help if it's a weekend.
Ducky, I secretly think Mercs are cool, so run with it!
And welcome Devil, we're all a bit nuts like Will said!

Well Im still debating on how to go about checking the flexplate. Probably going to have to pull the motor anyway. If its a broken flexplate the 2.8 can stay. If its anything else the 3.4 goes in.
