Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

just an fyi, of all things to leak on the car, it was the o-ring on the bolt that holds the oil filter mount. it was pouring out 3qts a week, and making a big, smoking mess to the point that I didn't drive it much last week until i fixed it. now, i just gotta go back in and tighten some rockers on the drivers side so its not so ticky tacky.
btw, hope those of you going out tonight have some fun, I look forward to july, i promise, ill put aside a few extra bucks so im not so tight on cash and can afford a drive.

I'd love to meet the idiot who designed that and toss that bolt in his face. I had nothing but issues with that stupid thing when I did my 3.4 swap.

I didn't even go. I got sucked in to repairing a friend's Hyundai Accent. Needed a brake light switch, I finally squeeze myself under the dash and its not even bad, the nuts holding it on were loose.

Nobody went. All good though, I didn't expect to see anyone else. Just too soon of a notice.

I was already in the area anyway so it worked out good. I walked around the mall a bit which is always boring for me. I just ate dinner and left.

That still kinda sucks. Hopefully a better turnout next month. I should be tuned and ready to go, just dont mind my warped hood from welding and mismached paint around my hood vent, lol.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

2 weeks until the July meet. Just thought I'd bump this back up. Still looking forward to this. I'm hoping the weather turns out nice. My hatch does not lock or shut anymore. The last time I opened it I noticed the wires on one of the plugs had broken and I can't repair it.

Have it down for July 26th @ 6pm...meeting will be the International Mall on the 2nd floor of the parking garage.

I should be good to go. Though I wont have my license back till the beginning of next month, my father has agreed to drive the car down so I will be there. Second story parking garage by nordstrom correct?

I could take a look at your hatch if you do take your car this month Jim. I have turned my motorized hatch into a slam hatch, so if you need wires/connectors I would be happy to cut mine off for you.

Yea its a bit much to spend the money to fix it "right", then have someone who doesnt know anything about these cars lean on the hatch and break what you just fixed, even though you told them not to lean on it. Needless to say that person is no longer a friend.

It doesnt take much to break it so I did what I had to, lol.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

Thanks guys. Really, I just want it to be just like factory. Everything correct. This will mean a new harness as I can't just cut and splice it all back together. It is broken within the switch itself. Picture below shows what I mean...only now 2 wires have broken instead of just 1.

Will, yes, 2nd story near Nordstrom. I was going to post the name of the store only, I forgot what is what called.

Does it look like it could be resoldered? Im handy with an iron. I cant really tell if there is enough of the contact left on the switch to solder the wire to.

Depending on pricing you could get the harness, or the assembly with the switch to swap in and reconnect your stock wires to.

Will, there isn't enough there to reconnect it. I am handy with a soldering iron. I just need a new harness and plug to redo the whole hatch wiring. Honestly, I wish I had reviewed the harness for the 91-92 T/A taillights I had purchased more closely. Not sure that came from mine or not. What I do know is that my harness had been previously subject to the elements in 2004 when we had those 3 hurricanes come through and it really did some damage to the harness then. I remember my hatch going up and down non-stop unless I unplugged it. Eventually I was able to plug it back in without any error and it operate properly. I think that has contributed to it finally stoping operating.

I say 7pm. I would hate to be out there in mid-day heat. I'm sure less than half of us have working A/C.

In the 5 years I've owned my car it's only had working A/C for 6 months.

Well, here's a S@#t basket. Since I don't carry comprehensive coverage on my insurance, I get to pay $260 for a new windshield. It developed a gigantic crack today, and I don't feel safe driving it as is, and that eats up any play money for a trip, as I've had to borrow to get it fixed. Sorry guys.

Try safelite auto glass, they had our windshields for $99 last I checked. I have a crack in mine on the outer layer, though its only in the lower corner. Damn semi kicked up a rock like 4 years ago, I pass them as fast as I can now, lol.

Im on the fence about coming down this month, funds are really tight plus I currently dont have a license, not sure if my dad will drive it down cause his back has been acting up lately. Will keep you all updated.

Perhaps we should move this to another time?

I will most likely not make it either. Came home the other day to find a little bit of water on the hallway floor. I looked up and the ceiling was bulging down and dripping water. My drip pan on the air handler is fine, but the air handler itself is kinda rusty. Will be replacing it, my a/c unit, and all the ducting as well as adding a few vents in the house.

No A/C??? Dude, I dealt with it in my Firebird for almost 10 years(Here in Florida's hot humid weather and in Texas' hot and dry climate.) To not have A/C in the house...that is completely different and a must(Can't sleep without it.)

What is wrong with yours?

Will, we could do something small at the end of next month, or PERHAPS...is anyone willing to make the trek up to Ocala and go to the 8th Annual OKTOBERFEST ALL GM SHOW AT SILVER SPRINGS, sponsored by NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT?? I went I think 2 or 3 years ago. Good show, lots of cars.

If you go to their website, it is a FREE pre-registration to all model years 1989 and older. Anything newer only pays $10 to register. Not bad at all.

I would love to replicate another Ft. Desoto show like a couple years ago but there just isn't enough time. Plus I'm busier than ever.

Maybe a 2015 Ft. Desoto car show?????????? I will see if my wife will help me plan it out.(The wife part may be the beer talking, kidding, she would probably be perfect for helping me plan it all out!)

What the hell happened to the car show in Orlando??? Someone please let me know of that one. IT was called the Camaro Car show of the southeast....I just can't seem to find it, Firebird welcome.

I know a few people down here who dont have ac in their houses and its not something I could go without in a house, though some people get used to it I guess.

Im down for a 2015 Ft Desoto meet cause I didnt make it to the last one, I heard it was a good turnout though so I would definitely make sure to attend the next one.

Not too sure if I would be able to make it to the Ocala meet at this point, depends on whether or not I can find some work finally, been looking for about a year, course it doesnt help I live in the sticks, lol. But if we do something in Tampa I should be able to make it, we will just have to wait and see whos down for what.

That sounds like fun. Would be a better meet to bring my friend out to. He wants to get into the car scene.

Any of you guys have problems with black widows making nests on the undersides of your cars? Killed 4 of them today then ran out of wasp killer.

Lucky you man. My yard is a freakin hotel for them this time of year. They usually hide, but when you spray them with something they dont like, they will come out and die.

So tomorrow I'm taking care of a massive list of things I wanted/need to get done to the car. Going to be SO MUCH FUN.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

So after a entire day of repairs and modifications the car now sits about a 1/2 inch lower. If I had a job I'd buy the parts I need to go lower. But that's CFL for you.

While driving on I-4 through Plant City today, I saw a red 91-92 Firebird heading east bound with the RA-II hood and hatch louvers. Anyone know who this is?

Well, it will be getting cooler out soon, so that will make life easier, since the a/c in the car is still busted. At least the house a/c is fixed!
Anyway, I should be good for a road trip. I'm closer to Orlando than Tampa, but whatever.
