New Stuff for my baby too (and E85 progress)

I'm going to be making a "How to" or "What I did" on coverting to E85 ethanol fuel eventually, so that's what these pics are for. But since I'm so excited to be getting my yearly new parts for my car, I thought I'd share.

Old fuel filter vs Barry Grant dry break alcohol fuel filter

Old HSR fuel regulator vs Aeromotive 1:1 Alcohol Bypass Regulator

Gotta change the injector O-rings too. You can see part of my exhaust in the background getting a new O2 bung welded into it (once I get a big enough drill bit.)

Wideband O2. I've been waiting to get one for a long time.

Tomorrow I'm cutting the fuel regulator portion off my HSR fuel rail and having them hard anodized black so they can handle the ethanol. Shiny black fuel rails against aluminum intake = secksay.

While trying to put the exhaust back together, I noticed that there was already part of a bolt in my collector.

Then after knocking the nutsert out, I decided to tack weld another nut in the hex shape hole. While clearancing the hole a bit, the bit in my dremel shatters.

So today I welded in the O2 bung, put the Y pipe under the car, and took the header off.

I feel so unproductive for being in there 3 hours.

What made you decide to go alcohol? Is it cheaper then gas right now?(I wouldn't doubt it! ha-ha)

How much did that WBO2 cost you? I want to buy one of them thing-0-mijegy's for my ride. It would help a **** load with my tuning right now and when and if I chose to go DFI.

Going DFI is something I have been thinking about for a long time now. I don't know witch setup I am going to go with, and it's going to be a long time before I get the car running on it. But as of now I am thinking about going with the Accel DFI Pro-Ram Fuel Injection Systems. But in need to do a lot more homework on this. The way I see it is that it's going to cost me close to $3k buy the time I get every thing done. So I want to make sure that I get the best one for my engine setup. I want the dam thing to make as much power as it is right now, but I also want to be able to drive it on daily. I think a DFI setup would be able to do that.

That kit comes with 36 lbs/h injectors and a 1200cfm TB, an intake that’s super victor equivalent so I can get that high rpm horse power that I have right now with the victor jr intake. And bunch of other crap that I need to get it running. I am going to have to buy a lap top and a wide band O2. I am not going to try and tune the thing with a regular O2(haha) I also need a distributor and a good fuel pump. So this is something I will have done around the time you finish your turbo project. After I do all that I want to put an ATI procharger super charge on the car and run around 6~8 lbs of boost. As of right now these are my plans for my car in the future. When and if I get the dam thing running with a DFI setup I will put a T56 in that car. And will be driving it almost daily. I hope I can get all that **** done before I get out of the Navy. But we will see.

E85 is a cleaner, more environmentally friendly fuel... that just happens to be 102 octane for less than what regular goes for. It just has its way with certain rubber materials and aluminum.

Look up Zeitronix, it's their basic kit. I think it was ~275$ if I remember right.

What compression can 102 octane support? I'm guessing like 15:1 or more, but I may be way off.

On an engine with ~9.2:1 stock, the optimal CR would be around 11-12:1.

Or you can slap on a turbo and increase the boost, which would change the effective CR.

I understand that, but given that the octane rating of the fuel limits the compression ratio, and thus limits the psi of boost you can use due to the possibility of detonation, my question rephrased should be, how much boost will you be able to safely attain with 102 octane fuel?

I haven't done the math yet (been a bit lazy) but I'm guessing around 10 psi on a stock longblock. Most of getting higher boost levels is having a really good tune.

Where does one get E85 to fill up their car?

I heard about E85 fuel on the tv once but i din't know that they should that **** in tucson. I could run that hit too. But i would have to jet up the carb and i think change the fuel filter and some of the rubber fuel lines.

You have to change any nitrile (and some others) rubber lines/seals/etc. Can't use a paper fuel filter. And anything aluminum has to be coated.

They have pay-at-the-pump for E85 at Arizona Petroleum near 22nd and Cherry. Or you could get a permit from the ATF agency and make your own. It's basically moonshine with 15% gasoline in it.

Haha that’s what I heard on the discovery channel. They where saying something about trying to replace all new cars to E85 buy the year 20XX and convert all other cars. But I don't know if that’s going to happen.

There are some new cars that come already set up for E85 (S10's, Silverados, Rangers, some Tacomas). Converting all other cars would be an expensive proposition. You basically have to replace every part of the fuel system except the hardline under the car.

So they did come out with some new cars that run E85! When i saw that TV special it was like over a year ago. I didn't think that it would take off.

That stuff is made of mostly grain. If it where to go into high production the price of vodka would go up But the price of E85 would go down. But still having to pay allot of money for vodka not good! I bought a shot of gray goose last weekend and the **** cost me $7 it's going to cost me around $20 if E85 is use anywhere nearly as much as regular gas is.
