Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
Yay. That 2nd gen is mine today for $1500. It has a small crack on the block from water freezing but that's a $200-300 weld job plus the $75ish to have it towed down here is still about $200 less than I planned.

S4l: Sweet man! Pics, all of us wanna see this beast!
Phoenix: Like your instructions man, easy as hell to follow lol (map quest sucks period). Went to the U-Pull and found 4 3rd gens and 1 4th. 2 white and 2 red. Funny thing was, there was one of each (camaro and trans am) for each color. Have ya been to the one on contractors way?
Went through the whole yard, everything has been picked that could've been useful from the car. I did see some interesting seats from a blue cavalier (custom upholstered with chevy bowtie for headrests). I liked them, but I promised myself that if I upgrade seats, it's gonna be 4th gen.
Just for randomness, washed the car Thursday, but now I've been told that it's gonna rain. I'm hoping I didn't upset the rain gods lol

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
So I ended up buying an '80 with a 305 and a 4 spd manual tranny. It has about 75000 miles, and is in pretty decent shape. It has issues with "vapor locking" since the carb is supposedly meant for a 350, but a new carb will fix that. Also needs a rear main, but my friends and I are going to do that either Monday or next weekend. I'll post up pics tomorrow, it's too dark out tonight. Hopefully I find my camera so they're not cell pics (which is still 8 MP ). I'm SO stoked!
Any of you been to the pick-n-pull on E Michigan? It's tiny, but I never got around to checking out the GM section. Maybe there are a few 3rd gens there?

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
S4l: I've been there quite a few times. They had a red 3rd gen, but last time I checked, they got rid of it. There's a fair amount of 3rd gens over there, along with a few trans ams. There's also a 2nd gen as well, but I have the slightest idea what year that one is. As of now though, I'm not up to date on what's new over there. The website is pretty useless, that much is certain.

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
S4l - Good to hear you picked up that 'maro and for less than you expected to pay. It shouldn't take much to get her road worthy. The price for towing isn't bad at all either. Like samurai stated some pics of that beast would be cool... never been to the jy on E Michigan though.
Samurai - Yeah there is a back way to that place but it involves taking alot more turns than getting off on Orange Grove. By any chance did you see any t/a's with the ground effects there? I've never been to the one on contractors way... My bro and I actually tried looking for it once but never found it.
I was on 4th ave yesterday and happened to see 2 third gen t/a's. One was what appeared to be a white formula or base firebird with its headlights stuck open (it was parked) and had a white paint job with some strange looking black designs all over the car. The other one was a glossy black firebird (exhaust sounded like a v6) with trans am gfx and 20" chrome wheels. I wonder if those guys get on this forum.
On a side note the cops were on the hunt since I saw them on mostly every block down the ave. There were about 3 or 4 near the dairy queen cuz 2 ppl got hit by a car ... it seemed like a hit and run since the car that hit them was just sitting there with no one inside. To top it off I witnessed a taxi driver almost hit about 3 or 4 ppl crossing the street from O'malleys. That street just keeps getting crazier and crazier everytime I go.

Oh, it's just a minor rear main leak, so I drove her home. Didn't lose but maybe 1/4 quart of oil. I'll have pics up today. The damn thing vapor locks but some heat shield should cure that.

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
Phoenix: Glad ya gave me the easyinstructions. Any other way, and I woulda got lost lol. As a matter of fact, I did see one (a white one). It still had the ground effects all the way around. This is the jy you gave me directions to.
An easy way to get to the one on contractors way is take aviation and head east. There will be a turn off to the right. Take that (if you don't, you'll be goin up golf links). You'll come to a stop light very shortly, so make a right when you get to it. Take that road and head south (it's a one lane road). When you see a exit of contractors way, take that (it's on the right). Head south, and you'll be going over some railroad tracks. You'll eventually see a sign U-Pull It on the left hand side. That right there is Michigan street.
As for the incident on 4th, yeah, that's exactly why I don't travel 4th. Too many stupid tards driving on such a clustered road. Night time is worse since you have your neighborly drunks leaving the bar and driving on the road.
S4l: Man, she looks pretty sweet. Looked at the license plate, and I think they shoulda replaced the "N" with "Y" at the end lol. Like the color. Reminds me of an aircraft blue.
As for the inside, there's nothing a car wash day couldn't handle. Some black magic/Armor all, a lil bit of wiping, and you'll have it looking clean on the inside. And for it being a 1980 camaro, the body is in hella good shape. All it needs is a paint job. Everything else looks pretty good IMO.

Samurai: It is pretty straight. A little surface rust on the roof. I wish it was a Y not an N.
I'm eventually going to redo EVERYTHING, but it runs for now. Going to change the oil, filter, do my brakes and put in new gauges tomorrow.

S4l - Damn bro she looks and sounds beasty, I have a little surface rust on the inside of my roof as well but as long as you don't let it get outta hand it shouldn't be a big issue! Cool vid btw... heard them annoying ricers humming by too lol.
Samurai - No problem man if I would of given you the directions thru the back way you probably would of gotten lost lol. As for the t/a you saw with the gfx, do you recall if it was for 85-90 body styles? Just like in my pic. Thanx for the directions to the u-pull on Contractors way, I'll definatey have to take a trip up there soon to check out the third gens there and this time I'll find it... about the plates having a "Y" instead of an "N" that was a good one !

Phoenix

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
Yeah, it's not bad for a 305. I pulled my instrument gauge out tonight, but I need a dremel or metal cutters to cut a back plate to put my volt gauge and fuel gauge in. Next week I'll do my tach and speedo, and be done. I need backlit gauges, hence the job.
Anyone want to get together this coming weekend?

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
Well, it appears the rain gods were not pleased with the washing of my car, so they showered it with their blessings of seawater lol.
Phoenix: I'm horrible with years on trans ams, but the one in the yard did look a lil similar to yours. Thats the one for orange grove. The one on contractors way has a trans am/firebird (don't recall), and it's in the special pricing area (it's all fenced up, but you'll be able to get to it by going through the door on the far left in the building). Other than that, both were white, so that should probably help ya since your car is white lol.
S4l: As with what Phoenix said, I heard them ricers flyby on the vid right off that bat. I was waiting to hear that infamous v-tec kick in lol. As for rust, pshhh that's not rust man. New York, Florida, and California have the real rust lol. Glad our state isn't in that list.
I'm down for a get together (hangin out and seein the 3rd & 2nd gens). You guys live far?

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
Samurai - This is some crazy a** weather huh? I could be wrong but all camaros to me seem like they're all the same body wise (85-92). Trans ams, GTA's and some firebirds on the other hand are much easier to distinguish: 85-90 have the boxy "ferrari" look to 'em due to the gfx where as the 91-92 have the rounder gfx and 'banshee' front bumper which don't appeal to me as much. I'm probably gonna have to head up to those jy sooner than expected if they're both white. That 'special pricing' car, are they parting it out or selling as a whole? Thanx for the heads up man.
S4l - I see you got to workin on her immediately after you brought her home... thats how I was when I brought my car home from Texas. Gave her the usual tune-up treatment, cleaned up the interior and washed the s*** out of the exterior. Just doin those little things will give you a good sense of accomplishment. Then fixin all the little gremlins she has will be even better.
As for a get-together I won't be able to since my tags are expired not to mention she looks a little rough with the beat up bumper and different colored body panels on her right now. Definately would like to attend a meet-up tho! I stay near the downtown area by the Tucson Convention Center btw.

So, just waiting on my fuel gauge to arrive, then I'll be putting my cluster back in and routing the temp sensor and oil pressure lines, and pray it all works. I hope the back-lighting works. :S
Payday is Friday, so I'll be doing my tach/speedo then.

So, did my oil and a friend and I did my brakes. Going to go put in my cluster, make it work then head off to seat my brakes down.
I'll post a few pics of the cluster if anyone is interested.

Never found the pink/black power wire so I used the purple from the wiper circuit for my gauge power..that was interesting. I then bypassed the motor and voila.

Samurai - Na haven't gone yet. I'll have to get a ride from my brother on his next day off since car is legit to drive. I've been putting alot thought into the t/a you say they have at the u-pull on the Northside and really want to jump on those gfx pieces I need since they're white in color. I won't have to worry about painting my GTA for a while if I do get 'em.
S4l - Hows the cam comin along? Some pics of the cluster would be cool.

It's coming.
Installed behind bezel:
Main positive and ground (connected all my positive and grounds together respectively with male/female connectors):
Cutting for fit.
I think I'm going to relocate my gauges into the plastic dash bezel so they look nicer, when I do my speedo and tach Saturday. Also going to do my rear main Friday evening.

Phoenix: Sent ya a PM.
S4l: Looks good man, it's coming together. You gonna get the gauages centered, or is that how they are gonna be when installed? Either way, working gauages>non working gauages any day!
Went to Oreiley to get me a relay. Turns out they don't have any in stock, so I gotta go around some other locations that may have it (they supposedly said these ones have it in stock, so I'll find out tommorow).
Another thing I gotta add to my "To Do list" is find another wheel for a spare. The original donut I had in the car is pretty much unusable as the tread is literally cracked and couldn't hold any air when filled up.

I'm Here in Tucson too....Unfortunately my 91 RS had been sitting in a garage for the past 9 years and am hoping to at least get it running this weekend. Only paid 500 bucks for it though so I can't complain too much :-) Let me know when you guys are meeting up and I'll see if I can get there too.

Samurai - Which relay? Sent ya a reply.
S4l - Good job man... lookin good there! It looks like your gonna have to trim the dash openings to fit the gauges properly huh? Overall your makin quick progress .
Bhewi - Whats wrong with your camaro? For $500 even though its not running I think its a pretty good deal.

Bhewi - Whats wrong with your camaro? For $500 even though its not running I think its a pretty good deal.

Phoenix: lol didn't get a msg from ya. I had a code 36 for a long time, and I finally got around to replacing the MAF burnoff relay with a BW R3009 one. Had to travel around town to find one, as the place near mine didn't have it in stock. Here's hoping it clears the code for good.
S4l: I agree. You are indeed making quick progress. Gonna be sendin you a msg later on. You doin anything Sat? Also, you in Tucson, or ya elsewhere?
Bhewi: What's wrong with car that you know of?

Saadin: *looks around* Anyone I suppose? If ya want, you can PM me your number. Tryin ta get a round up of people interested in meetin up. That, and it's easier to communicate rather than delayed posts on the forum.
Phoenix: LMK if ya interested in meetin up tommorow. If ya not able to man, it's cool.
If everyone is interested in meetin up, I'll try and find a time that'll work with everyone (hence why I'm collectin lol). Also, keep in mind today is friday, so there will be plenty of tards on the road in a hurry to get nowhere.
Now suppose we all agree to meet up at the Tucson mall. What part of the parking lot is fine with everyone?

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
well looking at the layout, the north-west parkinglot by the dillards looks the biggest and i would assume that it would be mostly empty being as the more popular stores are on the other side and that its the farthest away from the mall. thats where i would pick :P

Samurai - My bad man I did click on 'submit reply' but I guess it didn't send . As for meeting up at the JY, I really wanted to head up there to check out the T/A too but can't unfortunately since my brother goes into work early tomorrow (sux havin my GTA and can't even drive it ). If you head up to the u-pull on the Northside, do you think you can take a pic of the white T/A they have there so I can see it? If not don't worry about it I'm gonna have my brother take me either Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully u get your code 36 cleared up and your right about them tards on the streets .

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
There aren't very many things wrong with it but the fact that it has been sitting for 9 years leaves me a little leary of just trying to start it up out of fear of breaking something else. So starting tonight here is what I plan on doin with it
- Draing gas (old gas has turned to varnish by now)
- Replace Fuel pump (old one is dead and likely clogged)
- Replace Fuel filter
- Change oil
- Flush Radiator (Lots of rust in the cooling system)
- Replace Thermostat (Rusted shut)
- Replace plug wires
- Replace plugs
- Replace Cap and Rotor
- Replace Radiator hoses and heater hose
Then I'm gonna squirt some mystery oil in the plugs and turn the beast over by hand to make sure nothing is seized up. Once that is done then I'm going to start it up :-)

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
Gonna try and do something Sat people.
saadin: Dillards sounds good to me. Empty parking lot is a +
Phoenix: I gave the jy a call on contractors way. The white 3rd gen is a '92 Firebird. The one on Orange Grove is a trans am. If you have their number, give 'em a call, as they should be able to tell ya what year it is. It does have the GFX though (hopefully still on there for ya).
bhewi: yeah I see what ya mean man. A whole tuneup and some extra work should waker her up with no prob. Lemme us know how it goes.

Samurai - Right on! Theres some other parts I need so I'll be heading up there tomorrow. Thanx for the heads up.
Bhewi - I didn't know old gas can turn into varnish... you learn somethin new everyday lol! In that list you posted on your previous post, I'd add 'check all fuses' but thats just me. Like Samurai stated let us know if you run into anything on your car.... thats what we're here for.

You guys have my #, so keep me tabbed on what's goin on. Till then, I gotta catch up on some Z's. Got a headache from hell right now.

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
So, I survived and made it home. Was cool to meet you guys (only the "cool" guys know who we are :P ) but my headlights crapped out at O'reilly. Worked when I went in the store, and only the running lights worked when I got out. Drove the 2 mins home in the dark. Ideas?

Re: **Tucson 3rd Gen Gathering: Sign up here**
s4l: lol traffic wasn't that bad. 30* down here really? Damn that's a big dif! I was running 185/190 all day till I got home. Was pretty cool/breezy yesterday. Glad ya made it home safe man.
As for your wires, definitely check all your connections. Honestly, it really seems to be some wacked out wire messin with ya. Gotta chase it down. You can also probe your wires and test which ones are gettin juice and which ones are not/losing power.
saadin: Will do captain.
Btw, I was the one who arrived late lol. I realized when you guys said entrance way to dillards, it barely occured to me on the road that there's like 3 entrances to that place lol. Blonde moment FML
Send some pics of these beastly cars you were talkin about on the PSN screen name I send ya. Def wanna see the bird and prehistoric vehicle you was talkin about.
Also, hope you guys are ready for a cold one today (sun). It's supposedly gonna rain/snow, so watch out for tarded tucson driverswho can't stay in a straight line XD
And to close off for the night, Mustangs, Prius's, and goofy lookin cars. That is all
