Alan's (1989GTATransAm) Dyno thread #1

Alan's (1989GTATransAm) Dyno thread #2

I decided to add this info into the historical archives and for all the haters to munch on. Below are the dyno results of the first two runs the blue bunny made on the Brother's dyno in Corona. Since the bunny will no longer be competing with the fellow racers I can release this info and other can share in the knowlege of what this pretty tame but potent combo can make. All the items installed to make the power are out-of-the-box except the super-ram and accel base which where ported by me. With my tuning I got 15.5 MPG city and 26-28 MPG HWY (driving nicely, steady 68-75 MPH).

Below is the combo at the time of the dyno runs shown below:

Shortblock: 100% stock shortblock from new caprice 350 GM crate engine
Heads: AFR CNC 190cc, 60cc chambers, titanium retainers, upgraded valves/springs, 10:1 CR out-of-the-box
Cam: Lingenfelter 219, installed straight up
Intake: ported super-ram, ported accel base
Rockers: Comp 1.52 roller tip
Headers: SLP 1 5/8, SLP y-pipe
Cat-back: Flowmaster 3:, dual 3" tips
Tranny: T56
Rear: stock GM, GM 3.42 gears
Fuel: 91-octane, pump

Let me know what other info I can provide....

I bet you couldve squeezed out a better time than the 12.635 thats posted...I bet that car had the potential of a 12.20-12.40 run in it.

We'll never know though

Similar to Vincent, you don't know him very well do you!

No one is similar to Vincent, just asking him

EDIT:

1) These were the first two runs to get a baseline measurement of how my car was setup every day. No changes were made to the chips from my everyday chip. There was no WB O2 avaliable so this was not a dyno tune as I didn't have feedback to base my tuning on. The runs after these I made changes in the chip as to what I think I needed to do to get more power (more fuel and spark advance).

2) Dyno runs are with 4 year old uncleaned K&N filters installed. I had run a custom ram-air box the previous year or so. Those that know about ram-air know what happens to the air filters when they are exposed to raw road grime.

So where are the runs after these? Did your changes work to give you more power? I hope so! Only 15 more horsepower than me but 4 tenths faster means I really cant drive... (but we all knew that)

I thought a SuperRam would be worth more power, too.

well I blew up 2 rears and 1 clutch after these runs...so...

Yes, more timming and fuel. But I still don't think the dyno loads the car correctly, so what looks good on the dyno may not work best on the track with real resistance and drag.

The typical AFR190/SR/219 combo makes 325/380 RWHP/RWTQ from my research. So these results are consistant with that. If you do a search here on TGO you can see other member's results with my combo and they are all +/- 10 RWHP/RWTQ. What the SR does is keep the HP lingering in the upper power band longer than LTR TPI. Everybody thinks their SR HP peaks at 5500-5800 RPM but all the dyno graphs I've seen indicate they peak at 4000-4100 for TQ and 5000-5200 for HP. I'm have over 370 RWTQ from 3300-4700 RPM and over 300 RWHP from 4100-5800 RPM. Those aren't small numbers and that's a pretty good size power band.

Perhaps....but there is also no C-Bad to get a couple weekends of secret runs Results from Fontana are hard to keep secret. It's a different ball game now and the people who run Fontana are putting in 10% of the time and effort that they did initially back when I started racing there in 2001-2002. We used to get about one run in every 45 to 90 minutes. Now it's about 2X-3X that. It's a shame and very frustrating.

PS- Getting pulled out of C-Bad with a blown clutch is not too fun

What an interesting, seemingly out of place comment to make

Thanks for the info on this combo, but I have only one additional question, did this combo pass smog? It looks like it might, but by how much? Who did the CPU programming?

Thanks

Troy

It passed smog fine (last summer) on the same chip I made the dyno run on. I did the programming.
