AAA and street racing

This months AAA magazine has a article on street racing in So Cal.

It leans toward praising Ontario and LA for their new laws allowing confisication of vehicles.
Another new law is if anyone dies during a street race the charge is now 2nd degree murder, used to be manslauter.

Very little about the need for more track time.

Or how much they really want to crack down on the problem. All anyone has to do is drive down Etiwanda Ave right off the 10 after midnight on a Friday or Saturday to see the Street Racing in full swing

I fixed your link for you Tom.

That article reads like it was written by a suit at a desk, by someone with no interest in racing at all.

The police also have been trained to identify illegal modifications to cars, such as certain exhaust systems, so they can arrest potential street racers in nonracing situations
Oh great, I'm going to be pulled over and arrested because my car has a Magnaflow exhaust on it. Its not illegal to modify your car. Should we arrest people who own guns or knives now, because the weapons can be used to commit murder?

Instead of paying for the training of cops to identify bs they should open up a track for use on fridays and saturdays for street legal use

As far as guns are concerned, they've been working on it for decades.

On topic: Dig the reference to a streetracer going online and telling everyone his arrest cost him "10 grand." THAT's what really concerns government, getting that cash. As they look at it, they lose money if they don't "crack down"

If they really wanted to serve the public, they would accept the human (read: competitive) component of racing (instead of trying to "break" us) and work WITH us to improve access to tracks. If tracks were viewed as part of infrastructure (like a mini-mall or such), rather than an unnecessary expense being demanded by an inconsequential fringe of current society, we would be on the road to mutual respect. Therein lies the real issue: Government doesn't respect its constituents...nothing new.

Peace,

K

We should do something that's been done in the past. We should start a March. If we gather everybody, we need to do something big to make them notice us.
Peace Out,

If you were to poll the general public and not those on F-body websites, i bet 90% of them would be against using government money to fund tracks.

Don't limit the scope to our cars...

...imagine how the import car owners swell the ranks. Then add in other brands. California's car culture reaches further than 3G.

Carry it further: Once performance cars are deemed unnecessary, then what? This actually mimics the firearm issue quite well. Make something seem unnecessary, be it engine power or a large caliber. Get enough folks (read sheeple) to agree and eliminate said powerplant or caliber. The door is now open for other powerplants (or power levels for that matter) or calibers to be seen as unnecessary.

There's a quote concerning how various demographic groups disappeared one by one, and the writer didn't complain because s/he did not belong to any of the groups. When "they" came for him/her, nobody was there to fight for him/her. It applies here.

The govt backdoor sneakin approch.

Thats why SEMA has pays people to watch legislation in EVERY state. SEMA represents a multi billion dollar business, and they are very protective of it.

Along the same lines, Canada, Britain, and Australia all inacted gun registration laws with huge fines and jail time if you didnt register ALL your firearms, that said "we just want to know where they are". Then a couple of years later the banned almost every type of firearm, and they knew where they were. One collector tried to export his collection out of Australia, they said you can go but the guns stay here, and were crushed.
Calif did the same thing with SKS and AR15's.

That is why every time a new law is proposed, if passed we loose another chunk of freedom, we need to try and defeat the bill.

Yep, slippery slope with everything.

Remember the Gun Control Act of 1968 looks like a translation of documents Hitler derw up/had drawn up to disarm the Jews, saying that it was for their own good. It's happening with cars and guns now.

Just realized what your handle means, mainly because I have an Injured Injun myself (Formula radiator let go, Griffin halfway in now). Cool name.
