Like the last event, this event will be incorporated into the regular Thursday Nights T-N-T

The track opens at 4PM for tech and racing usually starts a little before 5 which is why I recommend that everyone that is planning on running their car be there a little before 4. I have found that the sooner you get your car tech'd and moved into the staging lanes. The more passes you will be able to make over the course of the evening.

$20 to race
$10 spectator
$5 for Kids 6-12
Kids 5 and under are free
Parking is free

This event (same as the last) is all about getting a little seat time at the drag strip and lining up with fellow 3rd gen enthusiasts for a few passes. TPI, LSx, TBI, Carb, doesn't matter, run whatcha brung!

It generally goes a bit past 10 so even if you just came out to spectate, it would be worth it just to see all the 3rd gens making passes

Good morning guys... Just a couple of reminders before everyone heads out to Irwindale Speedway for our Shootout this afternoon.

There is going to be a high of 96* so it is extremely important that everyone stays hydrated and out of the sun whenever possible. So remember your hats and umbrellas/parasols for the ladies.

I will have an ez-up set up in the pit area where everyone can leave belongings (chairs, tools, wheels, ice chests, etc.) while making passes. I will also have an ice chest full of bottled water. Look for the SC3G banner to find us.

With free admission for the first 500 spectators, turnout is expected to be substantial so the earlier you get to the track the more runs you will get in. Track opens at 4PM with passes starting at 5PM.

Also remember when filling out your tech cards to put SC3G into the club/organization area. This will help track vehicle attendance/participation and give us a reference point with the track later when we build a stand alone event at the drag strip.

Finally, for those that will be making their first pass on a drag strip this afternoon. Make sure to get to the track early so Vincent and I can give you a little drag racing 101 you before you hit the staging lanes and making passes.

Sounds like it's going to be a blast out there. While you all are out there, I'll be putting together my steering an loading the car to Gene Jones Racing. A fair well to this engine combo. There wont be any last burn outs or anything like that. Driven into the shop for it's final fair well an leaving it with it's 442rwtq street legal wise.

Another great turnout last night guys! Thanks to everyone that braved the heat and came out and supported our second 3rd gen f body shootout. It was literally 99* in the shade! However the majority of us got 5 passes in the first 30 minutes which was remarkable in itself and an additional 3-4 after taking an hour break.

Congratulations to Andy (Ringo234) on not only popping us drag racing cherry last night, but on getting faster and faster eventually dropping a full second off of his initial pass! I also believe that he literally beat everything he ran against which is pretty cool in itself. It certainly didn’t go that way for me when I started drag racing. Quite the opposite in fact lol… A fresh set of drag radials and plenty of seat time you will definitely be one of the quicker 3rd gens to watch. Again, great job Andy

We have lots of images and videos to sort through from last night so I’ll get everything put together as up for everyone to enjoy hopefully much sooner than later.

It’s looking like November for Shootout #3 but I’ll keep everyone posted.

For those of you that want to know how big a difference headers can make on a stock car... This is a text book example. Two stock-ish 89 RS's with L03's and exact same bowtie overdrives stage 3 transmissions. Only difference is my 3.42 rear-end to Frank's 3.73's. We both cut a clean light with an almost identical 60' time...

Was thinking of get some cheap steal Chevy rims at pick a part, any better ideas appreciated, but must be cheap. Actually Don has a set I can use so I'm ready to go back to Irwindale in hopefully much cooler weather.

Well as it turned out I made a mistake the tires I bought were not drag slicks but road race tires.
I contacted the seller and explained my mistake and that is wouldn't be worth sending back because the shipping cost would be to expensive. He agreed that the shipping would be stupid and sent this email reply"

"Apologizes for the disappointing tires----I try to be clear in my description , listing the tires as ROAD RACE TIRES----many of my customers do use these as inexpensive substitute drag tires and they are satisfied----have you tried the tires out-

He did refund the full price including shipping, I was willing to just keep the tires but he refunded the money anyway.
So I am going to give these tires a try at the next race day in November.
