Fuel sending unit fix

Hello fellows, when I do a hard stop the gas gauge moves down about 1/4 a tank, if my fuel level is lower than a 1/4 tank the vehicle will stall. If I have more than a 1/4 of gas on the tank the fuel gauge will still come down when I do a hard stop but the car will not shut off. Will replacing the fuel sending unit help with this issue? 1991 RS 305 TBI

anyone in the Murrieta/Menifee area that can help bring the tank down?

Not much you can do about the pointer moving up/down.The supply issue could be fixable, but i wouldnt know unless i dropped the tank.Maybe the fuel pick up/sock.

Some later models had baffled gas tanks to help with fuel starvation. That would be one possible solution to both issues.

"Some later models had baffled gas tanks to help with fuel starvation."

Sounds like that might be your problem. Very common problem with a tank that has no baffling.

Re: Fuel sending unit fix

The original fuel tank was replaced with a Dorman fuel tank model 576-183, I have the same issue with both tanks. I did notice inside the original gas tank a broken plastic inside, not sure if that is the baffle, I did not notice any plastic inside the Dorman tank, once it comes down I will take pictures. attached are the pictures of the inside of the original tank.

Re: Fuel sending unit fix

Ive never actually seen the baffles in these tank, but that looks like a sump or maybe that is the baffled area.Someone here can verify this, im sure.
