If you don't go the route of buying a different tank, maybe a engine rebuild shop could do it? They hot tank blocks all day so I would imagine they could do a fuel tank.

Bobs Radiators in San Bernardino cleaned out my tank and did some repair work on the filler neck for me a couple years back.
