anybody that knows fittings reallllly well

i need to go from a 3/8 pipe thread to a 3/8 JIC thread. and also a 3/8 pipe thread to a 5/16 pipe thread. i can't find anything out there and i keep getting confused.

i'm pretty sure its called JIC thread.

another thing, is JIC the same thing as AN???

see what i'm trying to do is go from my -6 AN SS bradied hose to the hard line i just put in my truck. its from a parts store. they called it brake line though. probably the same fittings are used through out the US on brake line(or fuel line like i'm useing it for). thats the thread i'm not sure about, the one on the new fuel/brake line i put into my truck. i need to go from that to -6 AN. i know its not pipe thread because we bought an adapter to go from 3/8 pipe thread to -6 AN but it didn't work.

one of the new lines in 5/16 while the other is 3/8.

Are you sure it's 5/16 pipe? I've never seen anything in an odd size like that. Your brake line probably has a bubble flare on it. JIC and AN aren't the same, JIC uses a 37 degree flare and AN is 45 degree.

What parts are you trying to connect?

If you can't find adapters, I'd just cut the ends off the hard line you bought and reflare them with AN tube nuts.

that the size of the pipe anyway.

and no, theres either a 45 or 37 degree flare on it. whatever a double flare is, thats what it is.

yea i have AN tube nuts and all on there but i have the wrong flare . how do i put a 45 on there?

i would also like to use the fittings that came with the tubing becuase i know that would be a lot better flare then i could ever make.

i'm trying to connect the hard steel line that i have, to the AN stainless steel braided line i have.

there is no 5/16 pipe thread. WAG is it's 1/4NPT. sounds like all you need is an adapter to go from pipe to a standard double flare. if it's standard double flare the threads are NF ,i think, and use the flare to make the seal. just get an adapter for double flare to pipe.

I wasn't thinking earlier... JIC and AN are the same, with a 37 degree flare. Your double flared line is probably an SAE 45 degree flare.

Actually, it's probably an inverted flare if the nuts are male threaded.

The only adapters I can find right now from AN to female inverted flare are Aeroquip FCM2936 and FCM2937. Both have 3/8-24 threads on the inverted flare side and are -03 and -04 respectively on the AN side. Both of these seem a little small for what you're looking for.

You could use a combination of adapters, from inverted flare to 45 degree flare or NPT, and then to AN. The cleanest way would be to just re-flare the ends.

Am I the only one that is lost around here? I think I know what you're trying to do, but I'm not sure. Is there any way you can take pictures of what it is you are trying to do?
