its going to drop!!
well after almost 6 months of second-guessing
, frustration
, and input from you guys
, i finally bit the bullet and dropped my $203 on a new set of Sportlines. i will no longer own a 4x4 trans am.
thanks you guys who finally convinced me that im not supposed to have 4" of fender gap
.
i should have them next week with pics to come, im just praying my driveshaft will clear my e-brake cables

Re: its going to drop!!
you obvioulsy dont live near me,
i did a ls1 rear brake conversion, and since there are currently no aftermarket e-brake cables available, i had to modify and adapt the 4th gen cable to my purpose. i hace 2 small pieces that i made to adapt from the T bar at the end of the 4th gen cables as well as lengthen that end of the cable about 6". my adapter is made out of 3 pcs of 1/8x3/4 aluminum sandwiched togeather around the T end the new cable extension, and with other little problems and what not the cables has a little lower that stock, so i was a little concerned. but if it hits my driveshaft I guess i will have to just adapt them a little more.
and, customblackbird, I do believe that the e-brake is also a OH SH*T!!! brake in case things fail and i would much rather leave them connected, and i sent you a PM about the alignment shop.

Re: its going to drop!!
$203? Did you get them from discount tire on ebay? I ordered mine from there Sunday, same price free shipping. I was trying to decide on sportlines or the pro kit. After seeing other post and formula 355 I decided on them. now I need to pick sh/st set up. I had a deal on koni's but I think they are dead so most likely KYB's.
Formula355, are there any F body clubs in the MA area?

Re: its going to drop!!
Yeah, I saw the ebay auction and it wa the best deal out there. Once I get it low I will post some pics before and after.
Formula355, this is my 3rd f body. I had an 85 firebird, zz3 crate motor and 5 speed, a 96 formula and now an 89RS. The RS isn't the fastest thing and I just finished the motor swap a few months ago. Everyone else I know has mustangs and they got to the track alot. I will be spending more time up there this year though.

Re: its going to drop!!
i just replaced my rear spring isolators with heater hose. the rear sits about a 1/2" lower now. she should sit level now (tough to tell with the motor out).

Formula355, great idea. How do you think this will affect the ride, if at all?
Can you guys do me a favor and read my Koni question post and tell me what you think? Thanks

Re: its going to drop!!
well, i have cheap-O intrax springs and to be honest the ride aint so hot to begin with. handles great but it rides a little rough. the isolators i took out were rock hard anyways so i'm not worried.

Re: its going to drop!!
sportlines came in today and i slapped them on in a crazy fast 2.5 hours. wow im really getting good at this spring replacement stuff
. wow the car looks so much nicer and i wish i could get some pics, but it was dark when i finished and don't think i will have time until this weekend to take pics. i managed to get a little over 2 full inches of drop over my Moog replacement Iroc springs! and the front seems to sit a little higher that the rear, but ill let things settle and see.
and my e-brake adapter is sitting pretty and 1/2 over my 3.5" driveshaft so im thrilled!!

Re: its going to drop!!
yea thats pretty fast, but ur gona have to do it all over again when u do the shocks/struts. lol why does ur front sit higher? did u forget the isolaters in the rear? maybe u dont have them in right on the front...like there not set in fully, they shouldnt sit higher in the front even before settleing the fronts are suppose to sit .3" lower than the rears with all the isolaters, i didnt have that prob as u kno i just did the sportlines wit mine, somethings not right wit the front.
get those pics up that things gona look good with the 4x4 look gone lol looks and rides a 1000 times better huh?

Re: its going to drop!!
no, the fronts are indexed correctly and the rears still have the isolators. i havent driven it yet, but i checked tonight and it leveled out.
and shocks are a piece of cake i can do them in my sleep, hardest part is pulling up the rear carpet.
the weather here in NJ is going to sh*t again, rain, snow, blah... so any good pics wont come for a little while.

86, where are the pics? I was going to put mine in this weekend but I had to clean my garage first. My nephew put a turbo in his mustang so my garage was full of musstang crap, had to get that out of there first.
