Rearend cornering problems...

Just a small problem I thought I'd get advice on before I started ordering parts...I love to corner in my '86...right now it's down for a motor and trans so I can tinker with it. The problem is when I would corner, say at 50 mph on the on-ramp around a somewhat tight curve, the front stays planted no problem (motor weight, no doubt)and the rear starts getting loose. REAL loose. Enough to scare me. I start getting oversteer. I installed Lakewood LCA's and a panhard rod- all bushings in the car are polyurethane. I just finished rebuilding the ENTIRE suspension including tierods and balljoints. Struts/shocks have less than 2k on them. It's been aligned. The tires were 235-55-R-16's. I can barely make the front budge when in bounce on it, but can make the rear bounce easy under my own weight. The front's been chopped about 3/4". I have been looking at several culprits; stock rear springs, tires, lack of weight at rear of car...I have a 4th gen rearend going in with some ZR-1 wheels(anybody have front spacers?)but I'm still worried about the springs and lack of weight. I'll be putting in a STB and SFC's soon. Anybody have a similar problem, and if so, how did you fix it? Just don't want to spend alot of $$$ without fixing the problem. -dhirocz

You need to do one or both of 2 things: either soften up the rear suspension or get bigger rear tires. By softening the rear, I mean softer springs/shocks, smaller sway bar or get rubber frame and endlink bushings, etc. Are you getting this oversteer when letting off the gas? If so, then that's what happens when you let off the gas in a corner; been there, done that. Another culprit is the rear end design itself, being a live axle instead of an independent rear, as that's a lot of weight to control. When a tire hits a bump, it affects the tire on the other side too. :/ Not much you can do about that unless you swap in a Corvette rear suspension ($$$ + custom fab work).
