Wheel hop after Detroit locker swap
Blew my rear end put a new Eaton Detroit Locker in it now wheel hops when starting a burnout / when it hooks what suspension wise can I do to correct this? the car hooked posi before but never wheel hoped before the swap but I think with this new locker it grabs a lot harder...

Re: Wheel hop after Detroit locker swap
Yes that is kind of common. I had the same prob when I went to a power trax lock right locker, then again when I went to a ford 9" Detroit locker.
Make sure all your suspension parts are tight and has good bushings in them.
LCA brackets, spohn LCAs helped mine out a lot.
My full rear suspension is
Spohn adj LCAs
Spohn adj panhard
Spohn weld on LCA brackets
Moog Iroc rear springs
Airlift drag bags
Jegster adj. torque arm
KYB AGX adj. rear shocks

Re: Wheel hop after Detroit locker swap
I was gonna try lower control arms with relocation bracket and panhard bar

I'm switching my Auburn posi for a Eaton TrueTrac and was wondering if I should expect the same issues...

Same issue with my lockright locker. New lower control arms and relocation brackets cured it.

Re: Wheel hop after Detroit locker swap
Yep with these cars anytime you gain traction you pick up wheel hop.. Like I said it was an on going upgrade / battle on mine.
I went from open to lock right locker and got bad wheel hop.. The LCAs and brackets solved that.... Then I put on Nitto drag radials and got a touch of wheel hop. Stiffer springs, jegster torque arm and adj. shocked fixed that. Then I went to the ford 9" w/ Detroit locker and got more wheel hop and adding more air to the drag bags and stiffening the rear shocks solved that.

Re: Wheel hop after Detroit locker swap
Yea, I would love to know what is really going on here. I don't think it's traction, but something with a locker or a 9".
I put a spool in my '87 Formula 350 and didn't have the problem. I put a 9" with a locker in my '87 TA and I got wheel hop (even with a modified jegster TA, LCA's...). The stranger thing about that is that it worked great at the track, no wheel hop in the burnout box and hooked anything I threw at it, but on the street it wheel hopped. If it wasn't annoying in what is basically a street car I'd be tempted to leave it considering how it worked at the track.
