Drum to disk conversion

I have a 91 Z/28 with rear drums.

I also have a complete rotor to rotor disk brake rear end from a 3rd gen. I do not know the year but can pull a number if needed. My rear end is making noise so I figured I would swap the whole unit.

Will this work? What else need to be changed. Porportion valves, master cylinder etc.

Do you know what year the disc rear is from? If this an 89+ rear then you have the correct m/c. I can't remember off the top of my head what m/c you need if its an earlier axle. If you search for it, i am sure its here.

Omega, I will check to see what year it is. If it is a pre 89 can I buy calibers from an 89 +. Would I be safe then?

Make sure you get new e-brake cables for 4 wheel disc too....I did this swap in my '87 IROC(I had 2.73 posi drum)and I changed over to 3.23 posi disc.....the donor rear I used was from an '82(just took manufacturer dates stamped on back),but I decided to buy new rotors, calipers, pads, ebrake cables and I asked for '87 year parts, they all bolted on and I changed my 2/2 MC to an '87 4 wheel disc MC.You don't need to swap prop valves if you have the right MC.This swap took me 4 hours doing it with one friend in a garage w/ a lift.My e-brakes work fine, the total stopping power is perfect and I've never had any problems.....I did a little fab work on the brake lines making both rear calipers run from metal line into the rubber hose on BOTH sides instead of one,but this is because my donor rear had shot metal lines and I used my drum brake setup on the disc rear.Simple swap, and looks alot better.I painted the rear end, differential housing cover, calipers, etc.while the donor was out(prevents rust in the future and looks great)and I used synthetic rear gear oil too.My donor rear had a new set of gears put in just before I got it because the motor went and I bought that car for parts. The swap was worth it for me,and feel free to ask any other questions should you have any!Good Luck!
