Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR

If it's only coming on when you are at a steady cruising speed (like around 60 MPH) then it's more than likely your free flowing exhaust coupled with the low RPMs of cruising.

This seems to be a common code people get. Evidently the EGR needs some backpressure (something that actually does need it ) to work properly.

I've had the same problem on the same motor for awile now, here's whats happening. When you are cruising down the highway and the computer is in closed loop operation (its at normal temperature and using input from the sensors to figure out how to manage the motor), the computer every once in awhile looks at the output from the O2 sensor when it knows the EGR is on, or it thinks it is, and knows it should have a certian output based on the EGR being on. When it doens't see that then it sets a code 32 thinking that the EGR is not functioning. But in reality it is, but you've increased the exhaust outflow which decreases backpressure which is actually necessary for the valve to work properly. Its nothing you really need to worry about unless you live in an emissions state (like me) then you'll probably have a hard time passing (like me). Another factor that can contribute to it is a lower temp thermostat. Chevy actually ran these motors at very high temps (220-230) to improve emissions since at the higher temperatures the fuel burns more completely therefore reducing HC emissions. So if (like me) you have say a 180 stat in there your emissions will be increased which makes the computer think that the EGR isn't working setting a, that's right, code 32. Phew!

well that would explain it i have headers and a straight 3 inch and also a low temp thermostat and the light only comes on a low cruising speeds thanks
