Checking TPS Voltage -- How To

OK, by request i went and snapped a couple of pics.

sorry i couldn'g get good focus, but you will get the idea.

in picture 1) you pull the plug from the weather pack, and take the covering connector off (basicly opening the plug up)

you stick the end of you DVOM in the appropriate wires, just shove them in next to the wire, it will work, trust me

(sorry i am moving, so i couldn't find my DVOM, but i had an anolog MM laying around, so i used it for the pics)

i'll answer any questions, to get the correct reading, the neg side of the tester goes on the black wire (far Right) and the possitive side goes in the middle wire.

hope that helps everyone. as Mr_Dude thought you could not do this on the non-adjustable TPS.

2nd pic was kinda dark so i fixed it some.

so you run the motor without TPS??

heh, i guess that would work just to check the sensor output though... matter of fact a analog meter might be better... you will be able to see if the needle is moving smoothly or if it has any jumps to it....

no you leave it all hooks up, it just shows you the output from the sensor. i didn't even RUN the motor, turned the key to the ON position, and snapped a pic, took me all of what? 5 min to get shoes on, go outside, pull my car into the garage, hook the meter up, snap 2 pics.

can you snap a pic of your connector?

it should work either way, you just have to get he signal from 2 of the wires.

won't jump if it's bad anyways, it will fall, and an oscilliscope would be ideal to use for that.

3 tiny pins = reference voltage, signal voltage, and ground.

Anybody have a voltage number to set the TPS to ?

The Chev FI book I have just says <1.25... seems a bit vague as compared to TPI TPS specific voltages
