Another Eldle brock intake ????

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of putting a edelbrock tbi intake on my '92 RS, basically i just want some oppinions and advice.

My car isn't some super fast hot rod, just a daily driver that i like to have fun in every now and then.

I can get a used edelbrock tbi intake for 125, and i was wondering if its worth getting. I already have a TB spacer, open element, headers, and cat back, along with a hypertech chip. I'm think of putting a cam in it (maybe an LT1 or a little smaller). would this be a good intake to go with that? I don't really want somthing thats gonna be a mess to tune. just somthing that will run decently in the 15s or so.

basically i'm just lookin for some advice here. so let me know whats on your minds.

Thanks,

Kyle

If you don't want to tune I would strongly consider leaving your car where it is now. Your car as it stands right now could benifit greatly with some chip work. I would ditch the hypertech and really read into burning your own chips if you are considering a cam swap. You won't want to do a cam swap without it.

Should be plenty left in the stock tune to add an intake too...albeit as SC mentioned, full potential won't be reached with stock tune.

Buy it, bolt it on...be happy.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. With a full exhuast and an edelbrock intake my tune went to poo. My car would hunt for an idle, my mileage went down the sewer and I had serious surging problems. Headers alone can change the VE of your motor by up to 10%. You won't gain much from the intake right now. To me it wasn't worth the hassle of my car running like poo until I could chip tune. Just a thought. It may not be so bad on an auto car though. Chip work really is the life blood of these cars. It is amazing how sensitive the tune is to the slightest changes. When I look back I should have done chip work as soon as the headers went on.

Ya gotta be kidding me. You must have a different breed under the hood. Long before anyone ever thought about chip burning, etc and ADS and Hypertech were the only guys on the block, so many TBIs gained time/performance with bolts ons.

And I think we pretty much know by now that ADS and Hypertech took the stock PROM and played with WOT tables.

Don't have any reason for your woes with a few bolt ons, but would guess you're definitely in the minority

well, i don't see much point in just putting the intake on, so i'll probly do that and cam at the same time. What i meant by the "i don't want a mess to tune" statment, i got a guy that is gonna burn me a new chip for 125, he knows what i'm wanting to do and says hes sure he can tune it, but basically, i just didn't want somone recommending a huge hi-rise single palne intake or somthing. I fully understand that there must be chip work with this. just an FYI

Just be aware that the one burn for $125.00 will not dial it in. I have had about a dozen done by me and about 6 done by the master JP himself. And it still needs more work.

So if you want to change the cam be prepared.
