big problem with speed
big problem with speed
recently me and a couple of buddies of mine went to do a little racing in oue home town.
i ran a 96 altima and almost lost. i bet him by 2 car lenghts, but still why are these cars so slow. i thougth for sure i would tear him a new as*hole. the only real mods i ahve are 14inch open element, No cat, and jsut some 8 millimeter wires. this just made me a little concerned. i have a 88 firbird 305/TBI
what could be the problem

well it could be a couple of things. First of all how many miles are on ur car compared to ur friends? Also who has a 5 spd car (if any) and who has the auto car. That can make a difference right there, a big one. I would say the smartest thing to do is go through ur car and give it a full tune up consisting of all AC delco parts. cap/rotor/9mm wires/rapid fires... If u want to do a mod than that opens alot more than just simple tune up work. I would say ur best bet would be to go with a set of rear end gears or a performance torque converter. Both mods are worth a little under half a second a peice so together ur car would be almost a full second faster. If u do it ur self a new torque converter wouldnt cost more than 250$ new. If i where u i would have gears done. DOnt attempt to do that one ur self. its a really "sensitive" mod to do But it will make a big difference. Go from a 2.73 (ur stock gear) to a 3.73 rear end and u will drop close to a second in the 1/4. After all parts and labor gears will run about 500$ but well worth it IMO.
BTW add a TBI tune up kit to ur list of things to do when u do a tune up. It gives u all new gaskets and screns to insure that ur injectors are nice and clean.
