new intake=hard shift from 1-2???????

My wife found my parts list and decided to pick some items off if it and give them to me for x-mas.

I installed new head gaskets, timing chain, balancer, and edelbrock intake manifold along with a few other things (water pump etc...). Once we got everything buttoned up and took the car out for a test drive it revs high (tach is not acurate (4-5K rpm estimate)) before it shifts from 1-2 gear, from 2-3 gear is normal. I couldn't get it into over drive.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Compare your TV cable geometry on the new intake with the old one.

the edelbrock tbi intake is taller, so you would need to adjust the tv cable.

With out looking at the manual, I am assuming that this is a matter of loosening it a few threads. I will look for a thread on TGO.

Thanks a lot for the advice.

TGO rocks!!!!

TV Geometry is more dependant on the parts in use than anything else, and can be very difficult to get right. One thing you can try before anything else is to re-adjust it.

With the throttle being held FULLY open, press the 'D' shaped metal tang and pull the plastic TV cable housing slider firmly back toward the firewall untill there is no more slack in the cable and the cable is taught. Release the 'D' shaped metal tang and close the throttle. Open the throttle all the way back up and verify that the cable is taught and that the TV adjust mechanism doesn't ratchet back out.

Also dont be surprised if the plastic TV cable clip breaks during this process. They get old and brittle and tend to shear off under load. Trans shops carry a replacement for around $5 that simply slips on in place of the old TV cable clip.

If that fails, then shimming the throttle bracket with washers can sometimes help restore the geometry to how it was before if the TBI sits up higher then it used to.
