Which intake and cam?

Hi. I'm looking for daily driven cam and intake combos that have great street power and DD properties. I plan to delete the EGR and use different heads, but plan to use the TBI system. I looked at a performer TBI but wondered if using a performer or performer rpm with a TBI adapter would be a better choice? As far as a cam goes, something in the 220 to 230 @ .050 and .470 to .480 lift? Or is that to far fetched for my goal? Thanks
Shaw

I use a Holley Projection TBI manifold. Permormer or same but RPM with adapter is a good choice as well. Avoid air gap.

Re: Which intake and cam?

X2 on the holley manifold. And a good streetable cam that will give you good power is Comp cams xr264hr. It will give you great low end and midrange power and if you have good heads you can retard the cam to make more hp up top without loosing any low end. Don't let the small numbers fool you. This cam has aggressive ramps and needs good springs.

Thanks. I looked at that manifold. Did not know how well it worked. Anything has to be better then the factory TBI manifold.

Re: Which intake and cam?

Yes it's a real good manifold and has plenty of room to grow in it. With that manifold, cam (with 1.6s) a good TB with 2" bores, injectors, exhaust and tunning you would have a strong motor.

Re: Which intake and cam?

This engine is a 94 out of a z71 truck. I don't think it is roller. And it's kind of a budget build with exception of the heads. I like the idea of the intake, and being able to re use all the accessory brackets. I am putting this in my 70 chevelle with. 4l60e auto. I will probably stay with a hyd flat tappet for now, but something that will match well with 9.5:1 comp and the Holley intake

Re: Which intake and cam?

My 95 350 truck motor (still TBI in 95) was a factory flat tappet cam motor.

Re: Which intake and cam?

They have a flat tappet version of that cam it's the Comp Cams XE262. It has 262/280 adv. dur with a 113 LSA. It will give you the low end torque and midrange with a nice clean lope at idle. I've use this cam and the roller version on 350s in the past but always retarded them for more hp up stairs. The roller version in a 355 retarded with a two brrl EFI put down 410+hp and 425lbs torque through a 700R4 and locked 3200 stall.

I called CompCams yesterday and gave them my possible engine specs. They told me that the 12-262-4 would be the best cam for my engine. So, I guess you were right.

Re: Which intake and cam?

I think you will be very happy with this cam. Most people over cam their engines and don't undersatnd that to build HP you have to have torque up top. If the motor package is done right you can have the best of both worlds. I like to build my motors with good low, strong midrange and enough lunges to stretch it out up top. 425lbs of torque at the rear from a emissions legal 355 with full accessories and exhaust is more than many 383 combos I've seen. I recomend that you port your new heads to free up even more hp.

Re: Which intake and cam?

i looked at that on the holley site.it says how tall it is but not how much taller than the stock intake it is.the instructions are useless.they have a section on converting brackets from two to four barrel carbs.
