Ignition issues...
So I've always wanted a 3rd gen camaro, and when my truck died, lack of funds for a new engine ( I have a f-150 with a 5.4 3v) lead me to buy this 90 camaro for peanuts. It ran good and was in decent shape but it still had little quirks. Today I was starting to wrap my last major quirk up which is a severe leak coming from the upper pass side of the engine. Leaks almost half a quart a day. I took it to the car wash, bagged up the TBI, alternator and distributor and went to town on the thing with engine degreaser.sprayed it off, put it all back together, thought everything was fine until I pull out about 100 ft to talk to a buddy who was vacuuming his car and realize that it shut it self off.figuring I got moisture under the cap, I took a look, felt dry but the rotor and cap were both fried, so I had a buddy go down the road to the auto parts and pick a new set up. Replaced it, idled fine and then just shut off again.trying to check everything, pulled the coil wire layed it down to see if it would ark inside the wire, got no spark, so I sent my buddy back to the store, replaced coil, got spark, put it back together, ran great for about 5 minutes again. Looked into it, saw all the threads about the ICM. Sent my buddy back to the auto parts, he grabs me the ICM, we install it and after holding my foot to the floor, it starts but runs like complete crap but doesn't misterously die. By the time everything was said and done it was 1030. Limped it back home.I have to have it for my job monday-friday and if I don't figure it out, I won't have a job. Can someone shed some light on the situation? Why a new ICM would make the thing run like complete garbage?
Re: Ignition issues...
5 years and 3 camaros later, the thing just so happened to be leaking a small amount of coolant at the same time. It was empty and I never thought to check that so the computer was ramping up the timing and telling it to drown itself in fuel lol.
