What mods to do?
What mods to do?
I want to beef up my 5.0 TBI if possible. I have about $1500 and just wanted to get some opinions on what I should do. My car is basically stock, except what is in the sig, and has a little over 95,000 miles.
Thanks,
Kevin

Headers(350), 3" exhaust(150), high flow cat(100), zelex torsen take off posi(85, slponline.com), Richmond 3.73 gears +install kit(275), Ultimate TBI mods (free), Sub Frame Connectors(155, Spohn)
That is about $1115, and look to spend about 250 on gear install, and 200 or SFC and exhaust install. I went alittle over your price range but this is a very good start.

I say eliminate the TBI weak spots: heads, intake and camshaft. Heads I'd say go with 305 S/R Torquers or Edelbrock 60cc. For intake single plane seems to be quite popular but if you have to pass emmissions take EGR into consideration. And for cam, the stock LT1 cam seems popular also, but there's a lot of great aftermarket grinds out there..Comp cams seems to be the best.

for 1500 i'd get new heads, some non-emission headers, and NOS! figure 560 for NOS, 700 for heads, 100 for headers.... for heads get some cast iron ones... dont save weight but do *** substantial horsepower
1500 ya say? If you are willing to sacrafice some compression, grap the L31 Vortecs - aroud $400 fer a pair - www.sdpc2000.com grab some 1 1/2 or 1 5/8 primary headers, a cat back, ditch the cat (save 200 bux a hi flo would cost). Grab up a performer RPM intake manifold, 4 bbl to TBI adapter plate (theres a post on cheap ones somewhere). Grab a used LT1 cam (best fer the money), or something maybe like a LT4 hot cam? in any case - watch the lift, not to high. Also, get an Open Air Element (MUCH cheaper than dual snorkle set up...). Thats all I can think of off the top of my head fer the engine. do the standard suspsension wrk - LCA reloaction, boxed/tubular LCA's, boxed/tubular panhard, posi, steeper gears (3.73 maybe...). yeah - it'll all cost a bit more than 1500, but damn, that would be a FAST L03! lol Anyways, if I missed anything, lemme know!
