try to find a fourth gen Z28 with a manual tranny and there ya go of course it will be wider. you will probably have a harder time finding a third gen one, if they even made em
i found a 4th gen 6cyl rear with disc brakes...
it was behind a 5sp
is this a 3.42 rear????what axel code should i look for or is ther one on the axel itself???
came with posi right??

very few V6's were ever built with posi, they are oput there but they are few and far between.
if you find a rear and it is in a car, check for the RPO codes. if it is out of the car you have to find the axle code, which can be hard since they did not paint the rears from the factory and they rust over. your other option is too take off the diff cover and count the teeth on teh ring and pinion. since the ring gear is the easy oen to see you will eb looking for a 41 tooth ring gear, if the car was a V6 that makes it very likely that it is a 3.42 ratio since the only other gear set to use a 41tooth ring is a 2.73 gear ratio, and very few of them ever made it into V6 cars. if you can see the pinion gear(you usually can withotu taking the carrier out using a flashlight) count the teeth on it too, for a 3.42 ratio the pinion will have 12 teeth.(a 2.73 gear set would be 15 teeth)

I've did some research and found that the best way to go is to look for a 4th gen rear off of a 6 speed car.... those mostly come with 3:42s... but what the research didn't turn up is the rpo codes that would show what gears were inside the unit (by the way when i say unit i mean the whole rear axle) so does anyone know the RPOs #'s on the axle that would indicate what gears would be in it.... also will 3rd gen wheels fit on a forth gen rear???
where would the numbers be located????

at my local junk yard they have 12 v6 third gens, they weren't sure about what was in them, but they said the rears start at $230. I know some had 3.42 and some had 3.23s
will there be any mods i will need to do the rear
if i put in a rear from a 4th gen???:lala:
what about the anti lock brakes ?
r the brake lines equipped with the same fittings as my 91'
very few v6 rears with posi...we talking bout 4th or 3rd gen rears???

It had these codes for the axle:
G80 : AXLE POSITRACTION, LIMITED SLIP
GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
J65 : BRAKE SYSTEM
