Charging Problems

Whenever I let my car sit for about a week it's a little hard starting but once it does the voltage is low and the alternator squeels. It eventually goes away within a minute. The alternator is about 6months old and about 3 month old belts.
I was thinking I had a car alarm in the car, but it's no longer in use, but the red light that is lit from the alarm stays lit whenever the car isn't running. Could this small light over a week drain the battery causing me these problems?

It sounds like the alternator is on it's way out. Doesn't matter that it's 6 months old, if it's going, it's going. Don't get a reman.

It was brand new from summit 100 amp, it's fine anyother time , as long as the car is driven and not let sitting for a week.

Sounds like there is a drain on your battery. When you start it up after a week, the alt has to work harder because it has to charge up the batt. The squeal is prolly the belt slipping because the alt is harder to turn when there is a large load placed on it. Check the belt to make sure it has the proper tension.

That's what I was thinking, eventhough the light from the alarm probably doesn't take that much power, I'm sure over a week it does drain the battery. The belt is tight also.

I have a little light switch in the rear cargo area that gets turned on by accident sometimes when I take my tool box out. I don't even notice it until I'm driving along at night and see a little light in the rear view mirror. Anyway, that sort of drain adds up over a week.

Just a thought.
