firing problems with 383

im having pronlems with the firing on my 383. numbers 3,5,2,8 cylinders just harent firing right. ive checked the plug wires to make sure they werent mixed up. the wires and plugs are pairly new. ive checked for vaccum leaks and havent found any. checked the ground straps on the motor an they are all in place. ive also had the carb rebuilt. ive also checked the rotor and cap and they seem to be fine. i cant think of what else to check next. if someone can please help me out i would greatly appreciate it

305,

Oddly enough, that is every other cylinder in the firing order (1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2). I would suspect an ignition problem, and start looking at the distributor reluctor and pickup coil.

Aren't these the cylinders fed by one half or plane of a dual plane intake? Could be one side of the carb is funky.

You can't take anything for granted here. The question you need to ask yourself is, has THAT carb run correctly on any engine since the last time you dissassembled it. If the answer is no, and you are just assuming it's good since you took it apart and looked at it...well, we all know where assuming things gets you...

guess i should have told you that the carb was rebuilt a week ago put on the engine and then taken off because it was still not firing right. then it was tore back down and rebuilt again (figured might have missed something) the carb works great. but still having firing probs.

So that carb was on a running engine, then on your non-running 383, then you rebuilt the carb and the problem is still there? Sorry, i'm just a little confused.

Also, what do you mean those cyinders aren't firing right. Whats your basis for 'not right', are the plugs fouling, is the header staying cold, or?
