OK is this a myth or what? Distributor Q

Is it just a myth that you need a bronze distributor gear for roller cams? My stocker gear looks plain, but there's so much oil on it I can't really tell.

Erson says that all roller cams require one, Mr. Gasket says that plain steel gears are ok for hydraulic roller cams.

The guy at the local speedshop that rebuilt my distributor says I dont need the bronze gear either so...

If you are talking hydraulic roller a bronze gear is not necessary. Billet steel solid roller cams require a bronze dist gear unless it has an iron gear pressed on it. GM # 10457708 is the correct iron gear for late model distributors such as yours.
