My oil pressure is real low. I replaced the sending unit but no change. I think I have spun a bearing because. I notice the low pressure after a hard accelleration. Or is it the oil pump? Before I pull the engine is there a way to determine which is the problem? The engine has about 10k on it.

What is the oil psi at idle and when its rapping? From what you say is that it decreases after hard accelleration ??? I have seen oil pump pickups (screens) come off and cause similar problems.

first thing i'd do is put a mechanical gauge in the block and get a truer reading than the factory gauge. spun bearings aren't that common, i suspect something else, after i did the new gauge.

If it's not diddie diddie knock knock knock diddie knock knock, then you didn't spin a bearing.
Man the last time I spun one the engine died, and we added like 3 quarts on top of an already full crank case. Then we needed a diesel truck to turn it over. Turned the idle up real high, and made it home.
Good oh rod bearing #6...

There is no banging or clanking. The engine is just as quiet as before. The oil pressure is in the red zone. As I rev the engine there is a slight increase in pressure. The water temperture has remained the same level.

Do what 'Ede' said... You can buy a cheap one for around 10 bucks...
Connect it on the side of the block above the oil filter. That's usualy the easiest place to get to.

I spun the #5 rod bearing on my motor last summer, believe me ,you'd know if thats what you had.It was hardly there at idle, but when you up the revs,it gets the knock-knock sound everyone is talking about. It sounds like a gauge or oilpump problem.Do you have slightly more pressure when the car is started in the morning? If not,i would suspect the gauge too.I've read the senders can go bad on those electric gauges.
Thanks for the replys. I got a mechincal guage installed and everything is fine. The problem was with the guage. There is a resistor across two connections on the guage. It had opened. I had an instrument cluster from an 82 z and used the resistor from it.
