Did you remove the roll pin that holds the gear on the shaft?

Gotta drive it out, otherwise the gear stays put.

Put it in a vice...."If you smack it...It will come"...

I use a center punch (fits perfect), and wack it a few times with a hammer. You can probably come up with a way to do it with a vice also.

When the P/U coil went bad on me, I had no I dea how a distributor came apart, or even what it consisted of...5-7 kid shot me an e-mail telling me how to to change it. I couldn't believe how simple it was.
With help from the guys on this board, iv'e managed to save alot of $$$ by doing repairs and Mods myself.
Glad ya got it apart...make sure the seal on the shaft is good, when you replace the distributor..common place for an oil leak.
