Still having problems..need help!

Well, I've replaced my timing chain and cam gear, got everything nice and tight. For a few days it ran tight, then accelorator sag, felt out of time. Baffled, I had it scanned and it turned out it was '
-76 degrees @ 30mph! Cam gear at -4..not too bad...

I thought maybe the distributor had something loose and it was moving on me, because everytime I reset the timing it runs strong for a couple days. I pulled the distributor and checked it out, everything is tight and appears to be in good shape. I reset the timing and the car ran great. That was two days ago. Then this morning..same thing..started running bad again. Haven't checked the timing yet today, but I'm sure it's off. I've been battling this problem for months. Any suggestions?? I need it to haul @ss for the T/A Nationals this summer.

Thanks!

If my memory is any good, the '91s had the EST functions within the ECM, not in a sepatate module. Check connections thoroughly, both at he distributor and ECM. Don't overlook the detonation sensor connector left hanging out there in the heat and weather, and of course the engine/chassis/ECM grounds.

It's also possible the reluctor and/or pickup coil are going south on you, or the capacitor in the distributor base. I'd check the HEI module connections and ground while you're there, too.

If you're certain the distributor isn't physically moving, you've likely got a connection issue.
