having a problem with timing *again*

well i put a new cam and lifters this past weekend. i soaked the lifters in oil for bout a day. lined the dots up. set the balancer mark at 0, put the dis. in , went to crank it and it was 180* off. turned it around, started rite up. i broke the cam in , got all the rockers adjusted. now some of u might of remember my last thread with the timing, well its the same cam i had in before. the other cam was still good but wanted to be safe and went with a new 1. after geting the cam broken in and everything i went out for a nice long ride. later on the nite i go out to test out the car, it revs up to 7k which is good, and it burns second gear pretty good. runs alot better then last time. but my problem is i still have the hesitation only when i floor it from a dead stop. its a little sluggish in first gear, but once it hits 2nd it flies. i went to go power brake it and it barely did anything, so i know something is rong i just cant figure it out. here is my combo

victor jr intake
650 dp carb holly model # 4777-s
world product heads 2.02\1.60, 67 cc, 3 angle valve job, cnc machined,
sprak plugs are gapped at 45. should they be gapped at 30-35? since its a 70's motor?
cam is a lunati braket master 2 300\300 duration and 515\515 lift
i have 1.6 roler tip rockers
flat top pistons, and my compression ratio is some were around the 9:6:1
the stall converter is a 2800-3000
distributer is a stock hei with the lightest advance springs in.
accel 8mm wires and accel super coil.

is there a way to redo the timing with out taking the timing cover back off? i know theres somethin to do with the distributer but i forgot how to do it. but if anybody knows what i did rong or whats rong with the car please tell me so i can fix it , i apreiciate the help

Dan

Yeah, I'm also thinking that the second item in your signature is a problem. Then again, I'm not a big proponent of Holley carbs unless they are the aircraft updraft style. I can make them run, but I just like others better. Gimme an old TheroQuad and I can find some horsepower for you.
