engine is missing when engine gets warm

My 89 305TBI is missing and idles like crap. We replaced
the distrubutor, distributor cap, and distributor roter. We thought this would fix the problem. Started the car
up and it sounded great. Then took if for a ride and it
was back to missing and idleing rough.

Then we replaced the plugs. The plugs and plug wires were
replaced when I bought the car 2 years ago. We started
the car up and it sounded great. Then took it on a test
drive the engine got warm and it started idleing like
**** again and missing....

Does anyone have any ideas what would cause the engine
to do this only when it gets warm? It runs fine before
the engine gets warm...

THANKS!

Oxygen sensor. If it's been more than 60 thousand miles since you last changed it, that may be the problem. Also if you had anything leaking into your exhaust, that could lead to an early death.

May also be the pick-up coil in the distributor..

I double checked the timing. I had it set at 8 instead
of 0 degrees

Changed it to 0 degrees and it runs like a dream....

Hey Breathmint,
Your sig... "and an Energy Suspension Poly trans mount that is worse then the broken rubber tranny mount "

What problem you having with the ES mount? I'm getting ready to install my new tranny this weekend, and that is the mount I intended to use. I hate doing things twice so let me know ok.

As for timing, each setup will be different depending on ALOT of variables... From heads to fuel seems the average for you 305 gus runs between 0* to 12* initial timing....what ever works best seems to be what ya need.

I dont know how you get away with 18* with stock heads though.

the more advanced ur timming is, the more power your gonna make (to a degree), just make sure ur running a high octane gas.. but your right, i don't know how i'm getting away with it that far advanced either.. with the est connector connected.. its more like 24* advanced or something.. freeked me out too, but i don't hear and pinging...

notice the pun!!

as for the ES mount.. WHen i first installed it, i noticed a TON of vibration, which i expected some more.. But AT high RPMS the vibration at the consol was terrible.. But i think it had a break in time, as its not nearly as bad as it was. Just make sure u install the preload plate, some people will tell u not to, but i had it with and without the plate, and the vibration was the same,, but as i said, its decreased alot.. And the ES is well worth it.

Pun alert....

Thanks for the info....Ive heard both ways to install it, with the plate, w/o the plate.... Guess I'll just try with first, if that doesnt work....I'll try without.
