Problem with new engine, why is smoke coming out of tranny dipstick?
Well like the title says I just put in a new engine in my car. I filled it up with fluids (5 qt in the tranny) set the timing, fired it up and there is smoke coming out of the tranny dipstick. The tranny pan is cool to the touch. Now I have 3 theories, tell me what you think is right:
1) Not enough tranny fluid since the Torque Converter was drained when tranny was pulled and needs more fluid to fill it up completely.
2) MY tranny disptick is a coolant hose instead of metal so could it be melting? (No smell of burning rubber though)
3) Something else?
Thanks for the help guys, I hope I can go out cruising tonight

It's boiling!
Well I listened to the fluid in the pan and it was boiling inside after running fro maybe 8 mins in the driveway. I will add another 4.5 quarts but should the fluid be boiling even if there isn't enough of it?
My tranny has a seperate cooler up front. It's about 10x8 inches and is not fan cooled. Is anything besides the two tranny coolant lines supposed to go to the cooler?
Thanks for the help,
