Ohh Crudd A/C!

Um i am getting lots of noise and a bit of smoke after its been running from my ac compressor. It is unplugged and not running (clutch is fried) but its makeing me nervouse. The smoke is comming from about were the shaft that connects the compressor to the pully is but i am not sure if its the pully bearings that are going or if its the compressor that is trying to lock up. If its the compressor is there anybody out there that knows how to simply remove it and rerun the serpintine belt? At atleast $460 alone for the compressor, + i will need a clutch and charge not to mention anything else thats bad in the system (if i am gonna replace the part it might as well work) its going to cost more than i would like to spend so if there is any way to get around this please help.

While doing a search through the boards i found a part number 10055890 that is supposed to be the a/c delete pully. When punched into gmpartsdirect it returns as a water pump pully is this correct?

Also what could i remove in terms of ac equipment and still keep the a/c heater box? I need defrosters that work and atleast middle of the road heat (at least keep the frost bite down, but the hypothermia is ok).

Just called the local gm dealer the 10055890 shows up as an idler pulley for a 90 or so caprice or camaro, is this correct? Come on guys i go back to work tommorow night and need to get this all put back together quickly.

Ya i looked around and found a picture of one on the boards. I just was unsure because it says water pump pulley above the pic when you punch it up so i got a bit nervouse. I now have one ordered though and its on its way. By the way, i can't remember but does the delete pully require a smaller belt or not? Thanks.

Wahoo! Man got the ac delete pully friday, got up this afternoon (I work night shifts) at 1:45 or so, got out side at about 2:15 and was done putting it in and doing all the checks before test drive at 3:15. Man that was easy. All i removed so far is the compressor mostly because i don't have a jack to remove the condenser, but the car runs better, seems to snap to a bit better and runs so much quieter without the compressor bearings screaming.

you really dont need a jack to remove the condenser. All you gotta go is undo the 2 lines going into it, loosen the radiator supports and tilt it back. The condensor will come right out. Didn't need to drain antifreeze either.

Well sounds easier than i thought, but i like the extra room i can get for takeing things out that a jack can give and it also will give me a chance to see what i need to mount my new air dam (idiots at GM first tried to give me part of the bumper cover and then couldn't even tell me what kind of screws, bolts, what ever i needed since the previouse owner took all of that out.). Nice to know i don't have to drain the radiator though.
