car cuts out, then comes back stronger then ever....WTF??

ok well when i would race, my car would get into the higher RPM's...(well not to high probly around 3500 is where it happens) and it would seem like i just let off the gas. it owuld only last for around a second, then the car would come back to life stronger then ever. i thought i wanst getting enough gas, but i fixed that problem with a new B hanger and DR rods...still didnt fix it. then my tranny went out and i was hoping that would fix it...no such luck. now im thinkin it may be my ignition?? iv got the cc hei with 8mm wires and OEM cap and rotor. (check my sig for my other mods).....you thnk its my ignition? or something else??? please help!

Bog city.

The secondary air valves are opening too quickly. Either your choke pull-off isn't holding them back like they should (until vacuum drops), or the AV tension is too light. Or both.

and how would i go about checking these things? i have done the AV tension mod thats in the tech articles, but it didnt help my problems. infact it used to do it before that also....you said something about the choke pull of valve....well i wonder if this has anything to do with it. a while back when i got into my car to start it, i heard a clicking...just a constant click click click click. then id rev my car up and it go away for a second. then i noticed that it was my choke light flashing on and off really fast and really dim. i played with the wire connection going to the choke, but that didnt fix it.....any relation???

No, the choke pull-off is vacuum operated. It sits on the passenger side front corner (some have one sitting on the rear corner as well). There should be a link between the pull-off and the AV pivot. If not, that's your problem.

Where do you have the AV tension set?

Check the magnetic pickup wires inside the distributor. As the vacuum advance moves it pulls on the wires. I spent hours working on a truck theat had a miss like that. I finally found the wires were broken and when the vacuum advance moved, it briefly opened the wires and the engine would cut out. A simple test would be to suck on the vacuum line. If the engine cuts out then you should pull the distributor and fix it.

I found the problem on the truck by using a timing light. The timing light would cut out so I knew it wasn't a fuel problem and started tracking down an ignition problem.

the fuel filter is pretty new. and i dont have the vacume advanced distributor. i was thinking it was a ignition problem also, but dont know how to check that without buying a new one....i set my AV tension like the tech article said. i forgot exactly what i did casue it was a while ago, but it did make a differance when i took off, deffinatly a good little trick. also there is a link between the pull-off and the AV pivot. i have another carb in the garage that has a new pull off......well basicly everything on the passengers side is new except the choke. should i try to swap them over??

...well, i changed the pull off that five7kid was talkin about, and it didnt help any i dont think. when i was test driving it, i was paying attention to my rpm's when the problem occured. in first gear at 4000rpm's it happend,, and then in 2nd gear at 3500rpm's. the first pass i made, i didnt even notice the stutter in 2nd, only first. i cnat test 3rd gear cuase i dont have a strip of road long enough...or the ***** to do it on a public road. before i said that its like i take my foot off the gas, then nail it again....well that was a bad explenation. it cuts out for like half a second, then comes back on. and since its where everyone says the stock ingnition falls on its face,,thats waht i thought the problem was...but still not sure since it does come back and pulls all the way till 6000rpm's....any more ideas?
