emissions question

Hey..I was wondering about this awhile ago, and I was hoping someone on here knew the answer.

The A.I.R. injection system on our cars and most other cars injects oxygen into the exhaust right out of the exhaust ports right? Yet the O2 sensor measures the amount of oxygen in the gas to make a judegment if the engine is running rich or lean...So why doesn't the air injected into the exhaust effect the o2 sensors readings?

I'm not positive, but I'm betting the O2 sensor would be calibrated to work with the AIR pump.
