Valve stem seal tester...??
Flipping through the huge service manual i have and this page caught my eye. It shows a 'valve-stem seal tester'. I was wondering if anybody happened to have one or know anything about it? I suspect one of mine might be bad, and think this would give me a definite answer. I have done a compression check and the cylinder in question had a higher reading (about 15 psi IIRC) w/ the plug covered in oil.
The number listed in the catalog is J 23738-A. Could I just go and order this from a dealer or should I look for some place cheaper online??
Here's a picture of the page (sorry i don't have a scanner)...

i've saw that in my manuals too. far as i know what they show would work with o ring seals but i don't know where you'd get the adapter. besides why would you want to, if you have smoke on start up you need seals, thjey're cheap and easy to install.

Really... a $100 tester to test a $5 part, that you have to do most of the labor of changing the part just to use the tester anyway... and all it tests is the drip-down O-ring, which is a futile part at best... not the way I would approach the situation. Looks like something that somebody who spent too much time in classrooms and not enough time on the job would come up with.
