CAM swap
Hello everyone. Im new to this forum, I just thought I throw a question in to see if you can help. I have an 87 Trans AM with a 305 TPI. Im looking for a little kick in the pants. Its bone stock except for a flowmaster exhaust. I was wondering about my cam. Do I have the "peanut cam" in my car? If so, its gotta go. I found a 350 cam from a vette that I want to put in. Im pretty sure it will work, so my big question is: Will I have to do alot of stuff after getting it in the car to get the car to run? Like will I have to re-time my motor with a timing wheel and all? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Very nice car you got there. First off, check the mid atl board for an upcoming 3rd gen meet.
You don't have a peanut cam. I would suggest headers and a cat-back first, Hooker all the way. Sound clip in the sig.
A cam swap is a long process , and you will have to set the timing again, now you don't have to degree the cam in with a wheel, but I hear it is VERY helpful.

, check out my thread in the TPI forum. I thought the peanut cams were in the LG4s?
Nope. They came in all LG4's, and the TBI's got it too. The 86-89 TPI auto's got that cam too. The later SD 305's had a little better cam, and the 305 TPI 5 speeds starting in 87 got a better cam too. However, the peanut cam in the later TPI's and TBI's was a roller, but had identical specs.
Yeah, you've probably got a peanut cam. I don't think anyone knows exactly what cars they were put in, but I'm sure that most auto LB9 cars did get them. Mine had one. Some people have claimed to pull the L98 cam out of theirs, so you can't say that all of them got it.
