Stupid question inside.

What is this thing that I have circled? What is it's function and can it be removed? The other thing is the heater control valve I think.

Thanks
Bill

(this is not my engine bay)

I believe that's called the air diverter valve. It's for emissions. I removed mine.
The other one is a heater valve. I haven't found a way to remove that yet and still keep my hot/cold choices.

Oh the days. I had forgotten how a lo3 was supposed to look. Yes you can remove that. There is electrical connection going into it but you wont throw any codes. When you take that out go ahead andremove the smog pump also. You still have all kinds of stuff you can remove

You can remove the heater valve by setting the car up like older cars. You can run a line directly from your waterpump to the heater core then a line from the heater core back into the intake. You will still have one line running over that way but it would be much more convienient.

What does this black box do? I can't pull any of my emissions equipment yet. I am however looking for ways to clean up my engine bay. I found some posts while doing a search that showed my how to reroute the heater diverter valve over near the strut on that side of the motor but I'm curious what function this box has.

Thanks for the reply's

Bill

I'm not sure how old this post is, but if you remove the black box, won't the catalitic converter get clogged up?
