Non 3rd gen won't start

It's a 1990 Chevy Conversion Van with 5.7 TBI. When you turn the key you can hear it try to start. When you hit the gas pedal it will run, but it is very rough. I need to get it running soon, so any help is appreciated.

There are a LOT of possibilities. It could be fuel mixture, ignition, timing, engine control, or compression related (or any combination of those). As always, it's a good idea to begin with a reliable ignition system.

Any other symptoms, like smoking, afterfire or backfire, error codes, etc?

No trouble codes, smoke, or anything. It ran fine last night fine and didn't today. I went and got some gas as a possibility (you know always start with simple stuff) and it ran after I added it. I thought, ok, they ran it out of gas so I took it to get filled up. The gas pump kicked off at 22 gallons and wouldn't take any more. Problem is it's a 33 gallon tank leaving at least 9 gallons since I added 2 this morning. But it seems to be ok right now so hopefully it was some glitch or something. Thanks for the response.

If you can get it to idle, can you get a vacuum reading? I'm thinking you may have a leak, such as a hose, gasket, EGR valve, etc.

I'll check the vacuum and fuel pressure after work. Thanks for the response.
