Base ignition timing
Base ignition timing
Hi, All. Anyone out there driving a stock 1990-92 5L TPI Z28? If so, would you look at the emissions sticker on the underside of the hood and let me know what the base timing should be? I have heard several educated gusses from 0 to 10 degrees advanced. Where I live the car has to pass emissions testing so I want it to be right. Thanks.

LB9 & L98: 6 deg BTDC @ 600 RPM.
RBob.
6* is the factory remommended setting. Make sure you disconnect the timing wire before setting it or you'll be way off.
With a stock chip you can pretty much bank on 10* working a little better for performance without affecting drivability or emissions at all.
