melting plug wires...

hoping some-one here can help me :hail: ... i'm running a 383 (hi comp heads, holley 750) and headers and have managed to melt the existing plug wires within 2000miles... any ideas for a good high temp resistant set? btw the melted set were taylors with 600degrees heat resistance

probably about 1/2" away... only noticed it when i came to service time... pulled off the wires checked the plugs and when the leads went back on ran like a pig... checked the leads this time and one just crumbled away in my hand - just want to avoid this happening again if poss... rather not have to buy new wires every 6 months or so

You may want to invest in some wire looms or heat sleeving.

Wire looms & Heat sleeve may work for but at the same time, you might have other issues. These were taylors so they should have been fine? It's strange that the boot just fell appart on you. Are your headers getting too hot? Running lean? Just some ideas on thing to check so you don't waste your money on a new set that get trashed.

headers get about 2x as hot as that 600* rating on those wires.

But like someone said, the boot shouldn't have fallen apart, usually those hold up better.

well being a brit i am quite good at being over-dramatic so for 'fell apart' read they looked pretty dog-eared and when i rubbed them (not really hard mind!) they started to crumble - enough to see the actual wire through the boot... not sure about if the engine is running lean or not though it looks like i'll have to invest in a rolling road session (though at roughly $240 a throw i really want to make sure that everything is in tip-top shape first)
