engine building questions

i have 406 right now that has a oil pressure problem. i took it apart and all of the mains were showing brass, except for the one under the oil pump, so i determed the cranck must have a clogged journal, keep in mind this motor was all freshly machined about 1000 miles ago. so heres my question, i have a new 350 crank and bearings, will those work in the 406 and what will be the effects, thanks.

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
You have to get spacers to use it since the main journals on the 400 crank are larger.

You have to get different pistons, or different rods to offset the compression height.

And you will be making your engine smaller in terms of CID. You will then have a 377. Not a bad motor, but you will lose HP and a whole lotta torque.

If you go to www.mortec.com , you'll see the differences in the crank journal sizes.

That's all I can think of right now, but IMO, that would be enough to shy me away from doing it.

You will then have a 377
Its a 400 bored 30 over so that would be a 383. Just thought I'd straighten that out. The rest is fairly accurate.

No. A 350 bored .030" over with a 400 crank (3.75" stroke) yields 383 ci.

A 400 (4.125") bored .030" over (4.155") with a 3.48" stroke will yield 377.5 ci if you want to get technical.

Maybe you're thinking of a 350 standard bore (4") with a 400 crank (3.75")? That's 377 ci, but just the other way around

LOL. I deserve that. ok so 3.78 because we round after 5. Anyway I'm not sure why I didn't add that up. For some reason I was thinking that the 400 bore was the same as a 350 but I looked and your definitely right

He has "a new 350 crank and bearings". He said that in his first post. He wanted to know if he could use it. That's why he asked. I told him it would be a major PITA. How else is he gonna know if he doesn't ask?
